🗺️ What to Expect

After collecting your bike near the waterfront, you’ll receive route advice and a detailed map highlighting recommended paths and stopping points. Most riders begin by heading west along the bay, passing areas such as Fisherman’s Wharf and riding out towards Palace of Fine Arts. The route is designed to avoid heavy traffic where possible and uses well-established cycling corridors.

From here, the ride continues through Crissy Field, where open paths and shoreline views provide one of the best approaches to the Golden Gate Bridge. Crossing the bridge itself is done via the designated cycling access, with time to stop at viewpoints and take in views across the bay, city skyline and Pacific coastline. Wind and weather can vary, so riders are encouraged to allow time and adjust pace accordingly.

Once across the bridge, a mostly downhill ride leads into Sausalito, known for its waterfront paths, cafés and houseboats. You can explore the town briefly before boarding the ferry back to San Francisco. The one-way ticket is valid for any scheduled sailing that day, giving you flexibility to decide when to return without rushing.

📍 Location

San Francisco’s northern waterfront provides direct access to the Golden Gate Bridge without needing to cycle through dense city traffic. Starting close to the bay makes it easy to follow intuitive coastal routes with clear landmarks along the way.

The ferry return from Sausalito removes the need to cycle back over the bridge, making this route achievable for a wider range of riders while still delivering a complete point-to-point experience.

✅ Prerequisites

All riders must be able to ride a bicycle independently unless using an approved child attachment. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

Double trailers and tag-a-longs for young children are available on request at an additional cost. One government-issued photo ID is required and will be held as a deposit for the duration of the rental, with a credit card kept on file for bike security.

⭐ Why Choose Us

This route combines independence with practical support. Bikes, safety equipment, maps and ferry logistics are all included, allowing you to focus on the ride rather than planning transport back into the city.

Cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge and returning by ferry offers variety, clear progression and a natural finish to the day. Flexible hire periods mean you can choose whether to ride directly to Sausalito or explore additional neighbourhoods and waterfront paths along the way.
