Jewish communities have lived in Morocco for more than 2,000 years, and the country is home to the largest Jewish community in the Arab world. Over ten days you'll trace that history through the Mellahs, synagogues and cemeteries of Casablanca, Fez and Marrakech. The route also takes in wider landscapes, including a night in the Sahara.
Museum visits in Casablanca include the Museum of Moroccan Judaism, the only museum in the country dedicated entirely to Jewish history, and the Beth El Temple. From there you travel to Fez, exploring the Mellah and Habarim Synagogue, one of the oldest Jewish quarters in the Islamic world. The Jewish cemetery is home to the grave of Rabbi Vidal Hasselfati.
After Fez, the route continues through Ifrane and out towards Erfoud and the Sahara Desert. A camel trek at sunset leads to a night in a luxury desert camp under dark skies. You'll finish in Marrakech with a visit to the city's Mellah and the chance to attend a service at the local synagogue, alongside time in the souks and Jemaa el-Fna square.
Erfoud marks the desert turn on a route that also links Morocco's Atlantic coast, the imperial cities of Meknes, Fez and Marrakech, and the Middle Atlas around Ifrane. The geographic spread sits alongside the cultural focus.
Accommodation includes riads, hotels and one night in a desert camp, reflecting the variety of the route. A private driver accompanies you throughout the trip.
