Dave was great. Really friendly and enthusiastic, which meant we had a really fun day. Would definitely book an activity again with him. He was also accommodating to the need for it to be midweek.
Dave our instructor was super friendly and was clearly experienced. He showed a real interest in the group, the gorge walking activity, history of the landscape and clearly knew the terrain like the back of his hand. We had such a good time in mother nature! Good the the soul.
David was an amazing guide! He took the right approach, bringing a lot of fun, allowing us to explore all while making us feel secure without too heavy a hand. Good mix of banter, expertise, and easy going. He encouraged and enabled without pressuring us at all. The river was…

Me and my kids had a great time, Dave gave the kids loads of confidence and made sure they got the most out of the experience

Looking for a refreshing outdoor adventure that gets you straight into the action? This gorge walking taster session introduces you to the rivers, waterfalls and rocky gorges of South Wales while building confidence in a safe and supportive environment. Perfect for beginners, it combines physical challenge, teamwork and plenty of fun along the way.
After meeting your instructor at Dinas Rock, you'll receive a full safety briefing and be fitted with the specialist equipment needed for the session. Once everyone is ready, the adventure begins as you make your way into the gorge, learning how to move confidently through flowing water and over natural obstacles.
Throughout the experience, you'll explore sections of river, scramble over rocks, wade through pools and navigate the varied terrain that makes gorge walking such a popular outdoor activity. Your instructor will provide guidance on safe movement techniques and help you tackle challenges at a pace that suits your confidence and ability.
As the session progresses, you'll gain a greater appreciation for the landscape around you while enjoying the excitement of travelling through areas that are inaccessible by normal footpaths. The combination of water, rock and woodland creates an experience that feels adventurous without being overwhelming, making it ideal for first-time participants.
Dinas Rock is one of South Wales' most popular outdoor activity locations, known for its dramatic river valleys, woodland trails and impressive rock formations. The area provides direct access to a network of natural gorges and waterways, creating ideal conditions for gorge walking throughout much of the year.
The surrounding landscape offers a mixture of flowing rivers, waterfalls and ancient woodland, giving participants the chance to experience a side of Wales that many visitors never encounter. The area's natural features make it perfectly suited to outdoor adventure while remaining easily accessible.
No previous gorge walking experience is required. The session is designed for beginners and those looking to try a new outdoor activity in a supportive setting.
Participants should be comfortable spending time in and around water and have a reasonable level of mobility to navigate uneven terrain, rocks and shallow river sections.
Every session is led by experienced instructors who focus on creating a safe, enjoyable and rewarding experience for all participants. The activity is adapted to suit varying confidence levels, allowing everyone to challenge themselves while remaining comfortable throughout the session.
Combining expert guidance with some of South Wales' best natural environments, these taster sessions provide an excellent introduction to gorge walking. Many participants leave with increased confidence, a sense of achievement and a desire to return for more outdoor adventures.
This experience has been created specifically with beginners in mind, making it suitable for individuals, families, groups of friends, stag parties and hen parties looking to try something different outdoors.
No technical knowledge or previous experience is required. Your instructor will guide you through every stage of the activity, helping you build confidence as you progress through the gorge.
Strong swimming ability is not usually required for this type of introductory session. Participants spend much of their time walking, scrambling and wading through sections of the gorge rather than swimming long distances.
All participants are provided with buoyancy aids and are supervised by qualified instructors throughout the activity. If you have concerns about your swimming ability, it's always worth discussing them before the session begins.
Unlike a traditional walk, gorge walking takes you directly into the natural environment rather than following established footpaths. You'll travel through rivers, over rocks and alongside waterfalls as part of the adventure.
The constantly changing terrain means every section feels different, creating a more interactive and engaging experience than a standard countryside walk.
You'll need comfortable clothing for before and after the session, along with footwear suitable for getting wet and providing grip on uneven surfaces.
A wetsuit, helmet and buoyancy aid are supplied, helping you stay comfortable and protected while exploring the gorge.
The activity can be challenging at times, but it is designed to be accessible for beginners with a reasonable level of fitness and mobility.
Your instructor will adapt the pace and route where possible, allowing participants to enjoy the experience while still benefiting from the physical challenge that gorge walking provides.
South Wales is renowned for its combination of rivers, waterfalls, woodland and rocky landscapes, creating ideal conditions for this type of activity.
The area's varied terrain allows participants to experience a wide range of natural features within a relatively short distance, making every session feel exciting, varied and rewarding.
