What to Expect

This experience begins at the Salt de's Freu, a dramatic 25-metre waterfall that marks the entrance to the canyon. After a short 15-minute walk from the meeting point, you’ll kit up and get a full safety briefing from your certified canyoning guide. From there, the descent begins with scenic natural pools and forested surroundings before transitioning into more action-packed features. You’ll navigate through narrow channels, slide down smooth rock faces, jump into deep pools, and complete short rappels using harnesses and ropes.

Expect a descent lasting around 3 hours, with plenty of variety to keep things interesting but manageable for beginners. After the final technical section, you’ll hike out of the gorge via a well-worn forest trail past the Avenc de Son Pou cave. The climb back takes roughly 1 hour and 20 minutes, giving you time to take in the changing scenery and reflect on the experience. Once back at the cars, there’s time to change into dry clothes before heading off.

Location

The Coanegra Ravine is situated on the southern slopes of the Serra de Tramuntana, one of the most scenic and remote areas of inland Mallorca. This particular ravine runs through a lush green corridor near the villages of Buñola and Orient, offering a true contrast to the island’s beach-focused image. The area’s unique topography is shaped by seasonal rainfall, which creates deep channels, vertical rock walls, and temporary rivers perfect for canyoning.

Access is via winding forest roads, with the meeting point set at the Repsol Service Station in Alaró. From there, the journey into the Tramuntana mountains is part of the adventure. Depending on your direction of travel, you’ll approach from either Buñola or the village of Orient, both surrounded by beautiful Mediterranean woodland. It's remote enough to feel like a proper escape, but still accessible without the need for a car shuttle.
