Few visitors experience Oslo the way locals do, and this private forest adventure offers exactly that opportunity. Combining woodland trails, lakeside scenery and a stop for traditional pastries at a forest cabin, it's a relaxed way to discover an important part of Norwegian culture.
Travelling into the hills above Oslo by train, you'll quickly leave the city behind and enter the forests of Nordmarka. The journey itself provides excellent views before the walking route begins amongst peaceful woodland trails and open natural scenery.
Reaching Tryvann Lake, there is time to enjoy the surroundings, relax on the jetty or take a refreshing swim during warmer weather. The lake is a popular outdoor spot for locals and offers a glimpse into how many Norwegians spend their free time.
Halfway through the adventure, you'll stop at a traditional forest cabin café where fresh pastries, waffles, coffee and hot chocolate are available to purchase. After the break, the route continues through beautiful forest landscapes before finishing at Woxen, where you'll board the bus back to the city centre.

Led by knowledgeable local guides, the tour combines nature, culture and relaxation in equal measure. The private format also allows for a more personal experience with flexibility throughout the day.
Unlike many hiking experiences that focus purely on covering distance or reaching viewpoints, this tour is built around everyday Norwegian outdoor traditions. Spending time in the forest, stopping at a cabin café and enjoying a slower pace are all important parts of local culture.
Visitors often say this experience feels more authentic because it reflects how Oslo residents actually spend their weekends rather than following a typical tourist itinerary.
