Curious about kitesurfing but not ready to commit to a full course? This discovery session offers a practical introduction to the sport, allowing you to experience flying a kite in a safe and supportive environment. Designed specifically for complete beginners, it's a great way to find out whether kitesurfing is the right activity for you.
Your session begins with an introduction to the fundamentals of kitesurfing and the safety procedures that form the foundation of the sport. Before entering the water, your instructor will explain how the equipment works, how to assess conditions safely, and the basic principles of controlling a power kite. As this is a discovery experience, the focus is entirely on kite handling rather than board riding.
Once you're comfortable with the theory, you'll move into the shallow waters of Pollensa Bay to begin flying the kite under close supervision. The bay's shallow sandy areas and generally calm conditions provide an excellent learning environment, allowing you to focus on understanding the kite's movements without feeling overwhelmed. Throughout the session, your instructor will remain nearby, providing constant guidance and feedback as you practise steering, launching and controlling the kite.
Depending on your chosen lesson format and how quickly you progress, you'll spend between one and three hours developing confidence with the kite. By the end of the session, you'll have a clear understanding of the basic skills required for kitesurfing and be well placed to continue onto a beginner course if you wish to progress further.
Pollensa Bay is widely regarded as one of Mallorca's most suitable locations for learning kitesurfing. The area benefits from moderate winds, shallow water and sandy seabeds, creating conditions that help beginners develop confidence while remaining in a controlled environment.
Away from the water, the area offers a relaxed coastal atmosphere with cafés, restaurants and local amenities nearby. Students also have access to premium facilities including hot showers, changing rooms, exclusive student areas, a swimming pool and a sea-facing bar and restaurant.
No previous kitesurfing experience is required for this session. The lesson is specifically designed for people who want to experience kite flying for the first time and gain an understanding of how the sport works.
Participants should be comfortable entering shallow water and able to follow safety instructions from their instructor. Bringing sunglasses, sunscreen, a towel and drinks is recommended, particularly during the warmer months.
Learning takes place within an authorised private teaching area in one of Mallorca's most established kitesurfing locations. The focus is on creating enjoyable experiences while ensuring every student receives the support and supervision needed to feel comfortable from the very beginning.
Instruction is delivered by qualified watersports professionals with recognised certifications in kiteboarding, sailing, SUP and surf coaching. Lessons are available in several languages, allowing visitors from across Europe to learn in a language they feel comfortable with while enjoying a well-equipped waterfront facility.
No. This session focuses entirely on learning how to fly and control the kite safely. Developing confidence with the kite is the most important first step before introducing a board.
Learning kite control first allows students to understand wind power, steering and safety procedures without the additional challenge of standing on a board at the same time.
Yes. The session has been specifically created for people with no previous experience of kitesurfing or other wind sports.
Many students begin with this introduction before progressing onto longer courses once they have experienced what kite flying feels like and decide they would like to continue.
Absolutely. You do not need to arrive with a partner or group to take part in lessons.
Individual participants can join shared sessions or choose private tuition if they would prefer dedicated one-to-one instruction.
Sunglasses are highly recommended as sunlight reflecting from the water can make it harder to see the kite comfortably.
You should also bring sunscreen, a towel, drinking water and any snacks you may wish to have before or after your session.
The bay typically benefits from moderate winds, shallow water and sandy seabeds, which create favourable learning conditions for beginners.
Lower wave heights and large areas of shallow water help students focus on developing skills while remaining comfortable and close to their instructor.
Students remain under continuous supervision throughout the session, with instruction adapted to their individual progress and confidence levels.
The discovery class is designed to be highly supported, ensuring that safety and learning remain the priority from start to finish.
Safety always comes first. If conditions are not suitable for teaching, lessons will be rearranged for another available date whenever possible.
Should you be unable to attend an alternative session and have already paid in advance, any unused lesson time can be refunded according to the provider's policy.
Each participant is provided with their own equipment during the session, helping maximise practical learning time and allowing you to focus on developing your skills.
Having individual equipment also enables instructors to tailor guidance specifically to your progress throughout the lesson.
