Walking Morocco's medinas is the point of this eight-day route, from the labyrinth of Fez el-Bali to the souks and squares of Marrakech. These historic centres are among the best-preserved medieval city cores in the world. You'll have time to explore them properly rather than passing through.
Casablanca opens the trip with the Hassan II Mosque before you continue to Rabat, then Meknes and the Roman ruins of Volubilis, where 2,000-year-old mosaics remain intact. Several days are spent in Fez, walking the alleyways of Fez el-Bali. Your guide takes you through Moorish tilework and artisan workshops in one of the oldest medieval university cities in the world.
After Fez, the route crosses the High Atlas Mountains, with a stop at a Berber village for mint tea and conversation. You'll finish in Marrakech, where the focus shifts to the medina's souks, spice markets and Jemaa el-Fna square, especially lively with street performers at sunset.
Based in Marrakech, we work from local knowledge of these historic centres. An English-speaking resident tour manager and local guides travel with you throughout the trip. We arrange private transport, riad and hotel stays, daily breakfast and dinner, and entrance fees, from airport reception in Casablanca to your final drop-off in Marrakech.
Time in the medinas themselves is the distinctive part of this itinerary, particularly the deeper stay in Fez el-Bali. You'll walk artisan workshops and tilework rather than moving quickly between imperial sights, with a High Atlas crossing and a Berber village visit between Fez and Marrakech.
