Get ready to swap Bali's beaches for one of its most popular river adventures as you paddle your way down the Ayung River. With exciting rapids, jungle scenery, waterfalls and a freshly prepared buffet lunch waiting afterwards, this is a brilliant day out for families, couples and groups looking to add a little adventure to their holiday.
Your adventure begins with pickup from your hotel in selected areas of Bali before heading to the rafting base near Ubud. Once you arrive, your guide will explain everything you need to know, provide your helmet, life jacket and paddle, and make sure everyone feels comfortable before setting off. No previous rafting experience is needed, so even if it's your first time, you'll be in safe hands from start to finish.
To reach the river, you'll make your way down a scenic path that takes around 10 minutes and includes approximately 50 to 70 steps. It's a bit of a workout before the fun begins, but the views are well worth it. Once you're on the water, you'll paddle around 10 kilometres along the Ayung River, passing tropical forest, towering rock walls, carved stone artwork, small waterfalls and lush rice fields. The rapids offer plenty of excitement without being too extreme, creating a fantastic balance between adventure and sightseeing.
After finishing the rafting route, you'll climb back up from the river before freshening up in the shower and changing facilities. A buffet lunch is then served, giving you time to relax before heading back to your hotel. If you've selected one of the combination packages, your day continues with a visit to one of Ubud's best-loved attractions, whether that's the powerful Tegenungan Waterfall, the unique cascades of Kanto Lampo Waterfall, the Sacred Monkey Forest or the famous Tegalalang Rice Terraces.
This rafting experience takes place on the Ayung River, the longest and one of the most popular rafting rivers in Bali. Flowing through the countryside around Ubud, the route offers a completely different side of the island, where tropical rainforest, rivers and traditional villages replace the busy coastal resorts. The scenery changes constantly as you travel downstream, making every section of the river feel a little different.
Your meeting point is at Angkasa Swing Cafe, located just outside central Ubud. If you've booked a package that includes transfers, you'll be collected directly from your hotel in selected areas including Ubud, Seminyak, Kuta, Nusa Dua, Canggu and Sanur, making the whole experience easy from beginning to end.
Anyone aged 6 or over is welcome to join, and no previous rafting experience is required. Before setting off, your guide will explain everything clearly and make sure you're comfortable using the equipment.
You'll need to manage the walk down to the river and back up again afterwards, so a reasonable level of mobility is recommended. Bring sunscreen, a camera, rubber flip-flops or water shoes, plus a change of clothes for after the activity.
There's nothing better than exploring Bali from the water, especially when everything is organised for you. From hotel pickup to professional guides, quality equipment and lunch after the rafting, every part of the day is designed to let you relax and enjoy the experience.
Whether you're travelling as a family, with friends or as a couple, this trip offers plenty of excitement while still being suitable for beginners. The option to combine your rafting adventure with some of Ubud's most famous attractions also makes it easy to turn one activity into a full day of exploring.
Absolutely. This trip is one of the most popular choices for first-time rafters because the Ayung River offers exciting rapids without being too difficult. Your guide explains exactly how to paddle, what to expect on the river and how to work together as a team before you even step into the raft.
Throughout the journey, your guide stays with your boat and gives clear instructions whenever you approach rapids or obstacles. You don't need any previous experience, so you can simply focus on enjoying the adventure and taking in the incredible scenery around you.
Before reaching the water, you'll walk downhill for around 10 minutes using a staircase with approximately 50 to 70 steps. At the end of the rafting route, you'll make the climb back up to the facilities before enjoying lunch and changing into dry clothes.
Most guests complete the walk without any problems, although it does involve some effort, particularly after rafting. Taking your time is perfectly fine, and the surrounding jungle scenery makes the walk much more enjoyable.
One of the reasons the Ayung River is so popular is because there's far more to enjoy than just the rapids. As you paddle downstream, you'll pass towering cliffs, tropical rainforest, rice fields, carved stone walls and several small waterfalls flowing into the river.
You'll also experience quieter sections where you can slow down and appreciate the surroundings before the next set of rapids arrives. It's a great mix of sightseeing and adventure, making the journey enjoyable from start to finish.
Wear clothes you're happy getting completely wet, along with secure sandals, water shoes or rubber flip-flops. Swimwear underneath your clothes is also a good idea, especially if you're planning to shower before lunch.
Bring sunscreen, a waterproof camera if you have one and a complete change of clothes. Towels are provided, and there are changing rooms and showers available once you've finished rafting.
Yes, a buffet lunch is included with your rafting experience and is served after you've finished on the river. It's the perfect opportunity to relax, chat about the highlights of the trip and enjoy a well-earned meal after an active morning.
You'll have time to shower and change before eating, so you can enjoy lunch feeling refreshed rather than sitting around in wet clothes.
Each raft carries a maximum of five participants, along with your professional rafting guide. Keeping the groups smaller gives everyone enough room to paddle comfortably while making communication much easier throughout the journey.
If you're travelling together as a family or group of friends, you'll usually share the same raft whenever possible, creating an even more enjoyable experience.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included with the relevant package options from selected areas including Ubud, Seminyak, Kuta, Sanur, Canggu and Nusa Dua. Collection times vary depending on where you're staying.
If you've booked the ticket-only option, you'll simply make your own way to the meeting point before joining the rest of the group for the safety briefing.
