Take things up a level with a faster-paced snowmobile ride across Langjökull Glacier. This 4-hour experience is designed for those with some riding confidence, using powerful machines built for performance. With smaller groups and more freedom on the glacier, it’s a completely different feel from standard tours.
Meet at Gullfoss before heading up to Langjökull Glacier in a specially modified vehicle. The journey takes you from the well-known waterfall area into more remote highland terrain, with the landscape gradually shifting from rugged ground to snow-covered tracks. The ride up is part of the experience, offering a glimpse into areas that regular vehicles can’t reach.
At the glacier base, you’ll be kitted out with gear and introduced to your snowmobile — a high-powered Yamaha Viper designed for performance. After a safety briefing and quick introduction to handling, it’s time to head out. Expect a more dynamic ride than standard tours, with the chance to cover more ground and experience a faster pace across the glacier.
Out on Langjökull, the focus is on riding. Wide-open areas, changing snow conditions, and long stretches of untouched terrain allow for a more engaging experience. Guides adapt the route depending on weather and snow, making the most of the conditions while keeping everything safe and controlled.
The meeting point is Gullfoss Parking, 801 Bláksógabyggð, IS. This is one of the most visited areas in Iceland, with good access by car and nearby facilities if you want to grab a coffee before heading out.
From here, the route heads into the highlands towards Langjökull Glacier. Covering a vast area of Iceland’s interior, the glacier offers a remote setting with open snowfields and varied terrain that’s ideal for performance snowmobiling.
This experience is for adults only, with a minimum age of 18 years. A valid driver’s licence is required, and it’s best suited to those with some previous experience using recreational vehicles such as snowmobiles, quad bikes, or similar.
Warm, waterproof, and windproof clothing is essential, along with sturdy footwear. All snowmobiling gear is provided, including overalls, gloves, buffs, overshoes, and helmets. Layering up is recommended to stay comfortable in changing conditions.
Guides leading these rides are highly experienced and selected for their ability to manage more advanced snowmobile tours. Their knowledge of the glacier allows them to adapt routes to suit both the conditions and the group’s ability, creating a more engaging ride.
Operating separately from standard tours means smaller groups and more freedom on the glacier. Combined with high-performance machines and a focus on riding rather than sightseeing, this experience is built for those who want something more than a gentle introduction.
This experience is designed to be faster paced and more focused on riding. You’ll use a high-performance snowmobile and travel in a smaller group, allowing for more freedom on the glacier.
Unlike standard tours, which are aimed at beginners, this one is better suited to those who already have some confidence with similar vehicles. It’s less about sightseeing stops and more about time on the snowmobile itself.
While you don’t need to be an expert, some experience with recreational vehicles is strongly recommended. This could include snowmobiles, quad bikes, or similar machines.
The more powerful snowmobiles used on this tour respond differently compared to beginner models, so being comfortable with throttle control and balance will make the experience much more enjoyable.
No, each rider has their own snowmobile on this tour. These machines are single-rider only and are designed for performance riding.
This gives you full control throughout the experience, allowing for a more personal and engaging ride across the glacier.
You’ll ride a Yamaha Viper, a high-performance snowmobile with a 1000cc engine and around 140 horsepower. These machines are built for power and handling across different snow conditions.
They offer a very different feel compared to standard snowmobiles, with more responsiveness and capability across varied terrain.
Warm, waterproof, and windproof clothing is essential, along with sturdy outdoor footwear. Conditions on the glacier can change quickly, so layering is the best approach.
All technical gear is provided, including overalls, gloves, buffs, overshoes, and helmets. These are worn over your own clothing for added protection.
The overall experience lasts around 4 hours, including transfers and preparation time. A large portion of this is spent riding on the glacier itself.
Because the tour is designed for performance riding, more time is spent moving across the glacier compared to standard tours, rather than stopping frequently.
