Pair an outdoor activity with a taste of local culture in this half-day experience. Begin with a guided archery session overlooking the Dornoch Firth before heading into town for a whisky tasting at one of the area’s most respected cellars.
Your experience begins with collection from your accommodation in the Dornoch area. From there, you will be taken to a range overlooking the Dornoch Firth for a one-hour archery lesson. The session is tailored to your level, whether you are a beginner looking to learn the basics or someone with experience keen to refine their skills. With guidance on stance, draw, and release, you’ll quickly gain confidence and accuracy.
Following the archery, you will be transported to Carnegie Whisky Cellars in Dornoch. Here, you will enjoy a one-hour whisky tasting led by knowledgeable staff. You’ll sample three carefully selected drams, each distinct in flavour and style, while learning about tasting techniques and the traditions of Highland whisky. It’s an opportunity to pair an active pursuit with a cultural experience, finishing the day with new skills and memorable flavours.
The archery session takes place overlooking the Dornoch Firth, a tidal estuary that stretches inland from the North Sea. This location provides an open and scenic backdrop, with expansive views across the water and surrounding Highlands. It’s a setting that combines the natural beauty of the area with the fun of learning a new skill.
Afterwards, the tour continues into the centre of Dornoch, a historic town well known for its links to whisky and Highland culture. Carnegie Whisky Cellars, based in the town, is recognised for its curated selection and knowledgeable hosts, making it an ideal venue for an engaging and authentic tasting session.
Participants should be comfortable handling sporting equipment under supervision. The archery lesson includes a full briefing, so no prior experience is required, and all necessary equipment is provided.
The whisky tasting element of the experience is reserved for adults over the legal drinking age, and guests should be prepared to drink responsibly. Comfortable clothing and footwear are advised, particularly for the outdoor element of the package.
This package is designed to showcase both the outdoor and cultural sides of the Highlands, combining two different but complementary activities in one seamless experience. By balancing physical skill with local tradition, it offers something distinctive compared with single-activity sessions.
The team places strong emphasis on small-group experiences, ensuring personal attention during both the archery and whisky tasting. With local knowledge, professional instruction, and well-established partners, the Draw and Dram package provides a memorable and authentic way to spend time in Dornoch.
The experience is designed to last around two hours in total. This includes one hour of archery overlooking the Dornoch Firth, followed by one hour at Carnegie Whisky Cellars in Dornoch for the tasting. Travel time between activities is short, so your time is focused on the experiences themselves.
It’s a compact package that fits easily into a day, leaving you time to explore Dornoch further or combine it with other activities in the area. The structure ensures you get the most out of both elements without feeling rushed.
No, this package is suitable for complete beginners. The archery session starts with a full introduction to safe handling and technique, so you’ll be comfortable even if it’s your first time. Instruction is tailored to your ability, ensuring you get value out of the hour.
Similarly, the whisky tasting is designed to be educational and accessible. You’ll be guided through tasting techniques step by step, so even those who are new to whisky can enjoy and understand the session.
Yes, all archery equipment is provided as part of the experience. This includes bows, arrows, and all necessary safety gear. The equipment is suited for a range of abilities and maintained to a high standard for reliability.
You won’t need to bring anything specific for the archery other than appropriate clothing. Comfortable outdoor attire and sturdy shoes are recommended, especially as the lesson takes place overlooking the Dornoch Firth.
Yes, non-drinkers can still participate in the archery session and join the whisky tasting as an educational experience without consuming alcohol. They can still benefit from the guided session by learning about whisky history, production, and flavour profiles.
In such cases, alternative arrangements may be possible. It’s best to mention preferences when booking, so the tasting session can be adapted to suit your needs.
This package is available for groups of two to four participants. The smaller group size ensures that everyone gets individual attention during the archery session and a more intimate experience during the whisky tasting.
If you’re a solo traveller, it may be possible to join an existing booking, depending on availability. Larger groups can also be arranged by request, though this may involve splitting into smaller sessions.
The whisky tasting is held at Carnegie Whisky Cellars in the town of Dornoch. This venue is well-regarded for its selection of whiskies and expert hosts, making it an excellent place to learn about and appreciate Highland spirits.
The cellars provide a welcoming environment, and the tasting is designed to be both educational and enjoyable. It’s an authentic experience rooted in local culture.
