Ever wondered what Marsa Alam looks like from horseback? Open sand sits just behind the resort strip, and this outing takes you there with a guide at your side. Choose a one-hour loop or a two-hour ride when you book; hotel pickup is included either way. First-time riders and guests who already sit a horse comfortably share the same desert format.
Morning light catches the dunes as you mount up and leave the resort strip behind for open sand near Marsa Alam. Your guide sets the pace from the first stretch, with time to settle into the saddle while empty desert fills the view. The one-hour loop keeps things compact; on the longer option the line pushes further into the dunes with the same unhurried rhythm.
From the saddle, soft sand slides underfoot and the pace stays at a steady walk, with a short trot only if the whole group is happy. Pauses open for photos without anyone dismounting. When the loop ends you return to the stables with warm desert air still on your skin and the sense of having left the hotel belt far behind.
Marsa Alam sits on Egypt's southern Red Sea coast, where resort strips give way quickly to open desert. The ride uses sand close to town rather than a remote overnight camp, so you stay within reach of the coast road while still leaving the hotel gardens behind. Dunes and empty sand are the scenery here, not a marked mountain trail. Heat, wind and sand conditions decide whether a slot can run, which is why the outing depends on the weather.
Back at the hotel, the rest of the day is yours for the beach or a quieter afternoon indoors. Because the format is a simple desert loop rather than a long expedition, it slots easily beside other plans in Marsa Alam if you leave enough time either side. Share your resort name so the van can fit you into the morning or afternoon run. Guests staying outside the usual hotel strip should confirm whether pickup still applies.
No riding qualification is required. Sitting comfortably on a horse at walk, following a guide, and spending an hour or two in the sun is all that is asked. Guides match the pace to the group, so first-timers and more confident guests can share the same outing. Tell the team if you have never ridden so they can pair you with a quieter horse and a slower first stretch.
Long, comfortable trousers and closed shoes work best, with a small heel if you have them. Sun protection, a hat, sunglasses and a bottle of water are worth bringing. Flowing scarves and loose jewellery that could catch are best left behind.
Your ride length is chosen at booking, so time in the saddle matches your energy without changing the format. Hotel pickup, a guide on the sand, and a simple desert loop keep the day easy to join. First-time riders and returning guests share the same path at a pace the group can hold.
Helmets and a steady horse come as standard, and the briefing happens before you mount. Soft sand underfoot means the outing is about scenery and a measured pace rather than jumping or arena lessons. Stay reachable on the morning of the ride so any change of pickup time can reach you before you leave the hotel.
Hotel pickup in Marsa Alam is followed by a short transfer to the desert stables. There you meet your horse, adjust stirrups and listen to a brief on how the ride will run.
Use this time to apply sunscreen, secure a hat and say if you would rather stay at walk for the whole outing.
The group follows a guide onto open sand. The one-hour option stays on a compact loop. The two-hour option continues further into the dunes with the same steady, guided format.
Trot is optional and only used if the group is comfortable. There are pauses for photos without leaving the horses unattended.
You return to the stables, dismount and transfer back to your Marsa Alam hotel on the same pickup run.
Allow the full door-to-door window so you are not cutting the last stretch of sand short to meet another plan.
Choose a one-hour ride if you want a shorter outing through the dunes, or two hours if you prefer more time in the saddle and a longer loop. Both options use the same guided desert format with hotel pickup in Marsa Alam.
The length you pick is the time on horseback. Allow extra time either side for pickup and return to your hotel.
Hotel pickup and drop-off in the Marsa Alam area is included on both lengths. You will be given a pickup window so you can be ready in reception or at the agreed point.
If you are staying outside the usual Marsa Alam hotel strip, share your address when you enquire so the team can confirm whether pickup still applies.
No previous riding experience is required. Guides match the pace to the group, so first-time riders and more confident guests can share the same outing.
Listen to the briefing before you mount, keep a comfortable seat, and say if you would rather walk than trot. Helmets and a steady horse are part of a normal desert ride.
Wear long, comfortable trousers, closed shoes with a small heel if you have them, and a light layer for the sun. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a bottle of water.
Leave flowing scarves and loose jewellery that could catch. A phone in a secure pocket is enough for photos; keep both hands free for the reins when the horse is moving.
Yes. Helmets and tack are provided at the stables before you mount. The briefing covers seat, reins and how the group will move on the sand.
Use that pause to apply sunscreen, secure a hat and say if you would rather stay at walk for the whole outing.
The ride stays on open sand around Marsa Alam rather than a marked mountain trail. You follow a guide along a simple desert loop with time to take in the dunes and, on the longer option, to go a little further from the hotel belt.
There are no technical jumps. The ground is soft sand, so the outing is about scenery and a steady pace rather than arena work.
Plan around two hours door to door for the shorter ride and about three hours for the longer one, including hotel transfers. Exact timing depends on where you are staying and how the horses are allocated that day.
Keep the rest of the morning or afternoon free so you are not rushing back for another plan.
Desert rides depend on heat, wind and sand conditions. If the weather is unsuitable, the team may shift the start time or move you to another slot the same day.
Stay reachable on the morning of the ride so any change of pickup time can reach you before you leave the hotel.
Yes. A guide rides with the group, briefs you before you mount, and sets the pace. You are not sent out alone on the dunes.
If you have never ridden, say so at the start so you can be given a quieter horse and a slower first stretch.
The meeting point is your hotel in Marsa Alam for pickup, then a short transfer to the desert stables. You return to the same hotel after the ride.
If you prefer to make your own way, ask for the stable location when your place is confirmed rather than guessing a pin on a map.
