Departing in the late afternoon, this Marsa Alam excursion combines a guided quad bike ride into the Eastern Desert with a stop at a Bedouin village, a camel ride at sunset and a barbecue dinner with live music and dance. Hotel transfers are included both ways, and the whole outing runs to around six hours.
After pickup from the hotel, the group is driven north to the quad start point near Sheikh Malek before riding out across the Eastern Desert towards a Bedouin village. A guide covers the controls beforehand, so no previous quad riding experience is needed.
At the village, guests are shown the traditional bread oven, the well and the simple water pipe system that supports daily life there, along with a chance to try Bedouin tea. As the light starts to fade, a camel ride around the village leads into a barbecue dinner accompanied by live traditional music and dance, before the group is driven back to Marsa Alam.
The Eastern Desert north of Marsa Alam is a wide stretch of open sand and low hills, home to small Bedouin communities who still keep to traditional building methods and ways of life. The route from the quad start point to the village crosses open desert rather than a track built purely for visitors.
Sitting away from the coastal resorts, the village gives a quieter, more local picture of life in this part of Egypt than the beachfront hotels a short drive away. Arriving as the light fades adds to the sense of distance from the resort strip, with the camel ride and dinner taking place under a darkening sky.
No previous quad riding or camel riding experience is required for this trip. Guests should be reasonably comfortable getting on and off both a quad and a camel, and able to sit through an evening outdoors that includes some walking around the village on uneven ground.
Closed shoes and layers are worth packing, since desert temperatures drop once the sun goes down. Anyone travelling with young children is encouraged to mention their ages when booking, so the operator can advise on the quad riding arrangements.
Combining the quad ride, village visit, camel ride and dinner show into one evening means guests get a rounded picture of desert life without needing to book several separate activities.
Timing the trip for sunset also makes the camel ride and the drive back noticeably more atmospheric than a straightforward daytime outing, with the barbecue dinner and live show rounding things off at a relaxed pace.
