Explore Lapland on a guided snowshoeing tour through Arctic forests and hills. This easy-paced adventure is suitable for beginners and offers a chance to observe wildlife tracks, enjoy a peaceful winter landscape, and experience a traditional Finnish campfire break in the wilderness.
The tour begins with hotel pick-up or a meeting point in Rovaniemi before heading to the starting location in the wilderness. After receiving safety instructions and guidance on how to use the snowshoes, the group sets off on quiet trails through the Taiga forest. Along the way, the guide points out animal tracks and interesting features of the winter landscape.
Halfway through the tour, a campfire break allows the group to enjoy hot drinks and typical Finnish snacks. Your guide demonstrates traditional fire-making techniques using flint and steel, even in extreme cold, while sharing knowledge about local wildlife and Arctic life. After the break, the walk continues through scenic snow-covered terrain before returning to the starting point and being transported back to Rovaniemi.
The tour takes place in the Rovaniemi area, exploring well-maintained trails in forests, hills, and open snowy landscapes. Routes are chosen to balance accessibility, safety, and opportunities to experience Lapland’s winter environment.
Transportation from central Rovaniemi or nearby accommodation reduces time spent in traffic and allows you to enter remote areas of the wilderness. This ensures a serene and immersive experience in the Arctic, away from city lights and noise.
No prior experience with snowshoeing is required, making this suitable for beginners and families. Participants should have basic mobility and be able to walk comfortably for 2–2.5 hours outdoors in winter conditions.
Although thermal clothing and boots are provided, participants are advised to wear layered clothing, hats, gloves, and warm socks to stay comfortable throughout the walk. Those with serious health conditions should consult their doctor before participating.
The tour is limited to a maximum of eight participants, allowing the guide to provide personalised attention, adapt the pace, and answer questions throughout the walk.
Safety and comfort are priorities, with trained guides providing all necessary equipment and support. The small-group format ensures a more authentic and intimate experience, letting participants fully enjoy the Arctic environment while learning about local wildlife and traditional practices.
No experience is required. Guides provide instructions on how to use snowshoes and offer assistance throughout the walk. Beginners feel confident quickly thanks to the slow pace and supportive guidance.
Small groups allow the guide to address questions, adjust the route, and ensure everyone is comfortable throughout the trip.
This is an easy-paced activity suitable for most participants, including families. Walking on snow may require slightly more effort than a regular hike, but frequent breaks and the campfire stop ensure rest periods.
Participants should be prepared to spend 2–2.5 hours outdoors in cold weather. Guides monitor the group to ensure safety and comfort.
