Rising above the white village of Casares, this via ferrata follows an exposed rock face leading towards the historic castle at the summit. The route combines vertical climbing, suspended bridges and short overhangs, creating a more demanding experience with constant views across the surrounding landscape. It’s a challenging but rewarding ascent designed for active participants looking for a step up from beginner routes.
Starting near the base of the route, equipment is fitted and the guide provides a full safety briefing before moving onto the rock face. The initial sections introduce vertical climbing along fixed cables and metal rungs, quickly gaining height above the village surroundings.
Midway through the route, two suspended monkey bridges measuring approximately 25 and 12 metres add a more exposed element to the experience. These crossings require balance and focus, with guidance provided before and during each section. Short overhangs also feature along the climb, adding a physical challenge as you continue upwards.
The final section leads towards the highest point of Casares, where the old castle sits overlooking the valley and coastline. From here, the route transitions into a descent path back through the village area, completing the experience.
Casares is a traditional Andalusian village set on a hillside between the coast and inland mountain ranges. The via ferrata follows the rock formations that rise directly above the town, creating a route that blends natural terrain with historic surroundings.
From higher sections, views extend across the Strait of Gibraltar, Sierra Bermeja and the Málaga coastline. The elevated position of the route offers a wide perspective over both mountain and coastal landscapes.
A good level of fitness is required due to the vertical nature of the climb and the presence of overhangs and long suspended bridges. The activity is suited to participants who are active and comfortable with sustained physical effort.
Confidence with heights is important, as the route includes exposed sections throughout. Full instruction is provided, but the experience is not recommended for those uncomfortable with elevation.
Guided outdoor experiences are designed to highlight the natural and cultural landscapes of the Costa del Sol through structured and well-managed activities. Each route is led by qualified multilingual guides who provide clear instruction and continuous support.
Strong safety systems, high-quality equipment and carefully selected routes ensure a controlled experience across all difficulty levels. The focus is on creating accessible yet challenging adventures in unique environments.
