Glide across calm, crystal-clear water on a guided stand up paddle tour from Portinho da Arrábida, one of the most scenic corners of the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park. Your route threads past limestone cliffs, tucked-away beaches and marine landmarks that are best seen from the water, with a qualified guide leading the way throughout.
Your session begins at the beach beside Restaurante D'Uportinho, where you are fitted with board, paddle and safety kit before a short briefing on the sand. Once everyone is comfortable on the water, the group sets out along the sheltered coastline of the Arrábida Natural Park and Luiz Saldanha Marine Park.
The paddle route takes in headline spots such as Creiro beach, Anicha islet, Coelhos and Galapinhos beaches, Forte de Santa Maria, the Lapa de Santa Margarida sea cave and Alpertuche cove. Pace is relaxed and adapted to the group, with plenty of time to take in the views, rest in calm bays and practise basic paddle technique under guide supervision.
Portinho da Arrábida sits on the southern flank of the Arrábida massif, where forested hills drop sharply to a string of small coves and transparent Atlantic water. The area is protected as both a natural park and a marine park, which helps keep the sea calm, clean and rich in coastal scenery.
Paddling here means limestone cliffs, white sand pockets and rocky islets within easy reach of the launch point. It is one of the most photogenic stretches of the Setúbal coast, and seeing it from a stand up paddle board gives you a quiet, unhurried perspective that road access alone cannot match.
No prior stand up paddle experience is required. The activity is graded easy and suits first-timers as well as casual paddlers who want a guided coastal outing. Your guide covers basic balance, paddle strokes and safety before you leave the shore.
You should be comfortable in the water and able to swim with a buoyancy aid. Children from age 6 may join when accompanied by a responsible adult. If weather or sea conditions are unsuitable on the day, the team will be in touch about rescheduling.
Sessions are led by experienced local guides who know the Arrábida coastline and adapt the route to the group's confidence on the day. All essential kit is provided, including boards, paddles and safety equipment, so you can focus on enjoying the paddle rather than organising gear.
Groups are kept small so briefing, launch and on-water support stay personal throughout the three-hour tour. From hidden coves to the sea cave at Lapa de Santa Margarida, you get a well-paced coastal adventure in one of Portugal's best protected marine landscapes.
Meet at Restaurante D'Uportinho on Rua do Portinho da Arrábida, Portinho da Arrábida, postcode 2925. The restaurant sits right beside the beach where the activity starts and finishes, so you can spot the launch area easily once you arrive at the cove.
From Lisbon, follow the A2 south towards Setúbal and take the Arrábida coast road towards Portinho. Parking is available near the beach, though spaces can fill quickly on sunny weekends, so allow a little extra time during peak season. Look for your guide beside the restaurant at the agreed start time.
