A full day from Reykjavik ties Iceland's south coast highlights to a guided hike on Sólheimajökull. Pickup from your hotel area starts the journey toward waterfalls, black sand and a few hours of real ice under crampons.
After morning pickup you travel east along the south coast to Seljalandsfoss, where a path leads behind the falling water, then on to the powerful curtain of Skógafoss. Folklore and wide views frame each stop before the day turns toward the glacier.
At Sólheimajökull you fit crampons, helmet and harness for a guided walk across crevasses, ridges and ice formations. Later you visit Reynisfjara's black sand and basalt stacks near Vík before the return drive to Reykjavik with Wi-Fi on board.
The day begins with pickup in Reykjavik (and selected stops along the south road) and unfolds across South Iceland's coastal strip. Sólheimajökull sits inland from Route 1 near Vík, while Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss punctuate the journey east.
Reynisfjara closes the coastal chapter with dark sand, sea stacks and basalt columns before you head back to the capital. One booking therefore covers city start, waterfall country, glacier ice and the Atlantic shore.
Moderate fitness is enough if you are ready for a long day with standing and walking at several stops, plus a guided section on uneven glacier ice. No prior glacier skills are required.
Children from age 8 may join when they can follow instructions and complete the ice walk with the group. Sturdy hiking boots are essential for the glacier kit to fit safely.
Return pickup from Reykjavik removes the need to self-drive the south coast, while a certified guide leads the glacier section with all required ice kit. Wi-Fi on the vehicle helps you stay connected between stops.
The itinerary balances classic south-coast sights with meaningful time on Sólheimajökull, so the day feels like a proper adventure rather than a brief photo pull-in at the glacier edge.
Morning collection begins at Reykjavik hotels and designated bus stops listed in your confirmation. Check your exact stop and ready time the night before, then be outside a few minutes early so boarding stays smooth.
Once aboard, settle in for the drive east along the south coast with Wi-Fi available on the vehicle as you leave the capital behind.

Arrive at Seljalandsfoss for a stop at one of the south coast's most distinctive waterfalls. A path leads behind the curtain of water, giving a memorable viewpoint before you continue east.
Leave a few minutes for photos around the base and the open farmland setting that frames the falls.

Next comes Skógafoss, a broad, powerful waterfall with space to walk near the base and take in the cliffs above. Local folklore often colours the stories your guide shares here.
Use the stop for photos and a short stretch of the legs before the itinerary turns inland toward the glacier.

At Sólheimajökull you meet the glacier team for a safety briefing and kit fitting. Crampons, helmet and harness go on before the short walk to the ice edge.
Out on the glacier you explore ridges, crevasses and sculpted ice formations with your guide, keeping the pace suitable for the group while still covering proper ice terrain.

Continue to Reynisfjara for time on the black sand with views of basalt columns and sea stacks rising from the Atlantic. Stay aware of the shoreline and follow any guidance from your driver or guide.
A brief look at the village of Vík often rounds out this coastal chapter before the long drive home begins.

Board the vehicle for the return to Reykjavik after a full day of waterfalls, glacier hiking and coastal scenery. Drop-off is typically back near your original pickup area.
Use the journey to rest, review photos and enjoy the south-coast landscape rolling past as you head west toward the capital.

Hotel and bus-stop pickup across Reykjavik is included. Your confirmation lists the exact stop and ready time. Be outside a few minutes early. Guests staying in Selfoss, Hveragerði, Hella or Hvolsvöllur may join at the timed roadside pickup points shown in the booking details.
Pickup runs from Reykjavik hotels and designated bus stops listed in your booking confirmation. Be ready at the stated stop a few minutes early so the vehicle can keep to the south-coast schedule.
Some south-coast towns such as Selfoss, Hveragerði, Hella and Hvolsvöllur also have timed pickup points if you are staying along the route rather than in the capital.
The full day lasts about 10 hours, including hotel pickup, scenic stops, the glacier hike and the return to Reykjavik.
Exact timings depend on traffic and how long the group spends at each stop, but you should plan for a full day out and leave evening plans flexible.
Minimum age is 8. Children need to manage walking on uneven ice during the glacier section and follow guide instructions throughout the day.
Families with children aged 8 and over are welcome when everyone is comfortable with a long day that includes both sightseeing and a moderate glacier walk.
Stops typically include Seljalandsfoss (where you can walk behind the falls), Skógafoss, a guided hike on Sólheimajökull, and time at Reynisfjara black-sand beach near Vík.
Your guide keeps the day moving while leaving room for photos and short walks at each highlight so the itinerary stays balanced.
A certified glacier guide, crampons, helmet and harness are provided for the ice section, plus return pickup from Reykjavik and Wi-Fi on the vehicle.
Food, drinks and personal expenses are not included, so bring snacks and water for the day or budget for cafe stops along the coast.
No previous glacier experience is needed. The guide briefs you and fits kit before you walk onto Sólheimajökull.
You should still be happy with a moderate amount of walking on uneven ice and a long day with multiple stops along the coast.
Wear waterproof outer layers, warm mid-layers, a hat, gloves and sturdy hiking boots that work with crampons.
Trainers are not suitable for the glacier. Pack a small bag with snacks, water and a camera for the coastal stops.
The glacier hike portion is moderate (Improver level). The rest of the day is mostly scenic stops and short walks at waterfalls and the beach.
Overall it is an active full day rather than a gentle coach tour, because the ice walk is a core part of the itinerary.
Food and drinks are not included in the booking. Bring snacks and water, or budget for a cafe stop along the coast if the schedule allows.
Having something packed is the safer plan for a 10-hour day with waterfall, glacier and beach stops.
After booking you receive confirmation with pickup details and the day's outline. Keep those notes handy the evening before so you know which bus stop or hotel pickup applies to you.
