2025 Events Dates: July 26th September 13th
Come along on an adventure that takes you through Wiltshire's most historic landscapes. This guided cycle tour explores the iconic sights of Salisbury, the ancient fortifications of Old Sarum, and the world-renowned Stonehenge. Led by an experienced mountain bike leader, you’ll ride across gorgeous countryside, passing through scenic villages and discovering historic landmarks. (E-Mountain Bikes Only)
Begin your ride on the outskirts of Salisbury and head towards the ancient hillfort of Old Sarum, the original site of the city. After a brief stop to admire the panoramic views of the modern Salisbury skyline and its historic airfield, you’ll journey into the heart of the city. Here, Salisbury Cathedral’s impressive spire dominates the landscape, and the peaceful water meadows will remind you of Constable’s famous painting. Riding past the Old Mill at Harnham, you might even spot a kingfisher along the weir.
As you venture further out, the route follows the old cattle drove to Salisbury Racecourse. From here, you’ll witness sweeping views of the chalk downlands and the stunning Cranborne Chase. The tour continues through the calm hamlets of Burcombe and Great Wishford, with a brief climb into Grovely Woods. If you’re cycling in late spring, the forest floor will be covered in bluebells, creating a scenic backdrop for your adventure.
Your journey will culminate with a view of the Neolithic marvel of Stonehenge. Take in the sight of this iconic monument and learn about its fascinating history before beginning your return. The ride back passes through Woodford Valley, along ancient burial mounds, and past Lake House, home to Sting, before concluding at the starting point near Old Sarum.
The tour is based in Salisbury, starting from Beehive Park & Ride on the A345. From there, the route covers a mix of roads, bridleways, and byways, passing through iconic landmarks such as Old Sarum, Stonehenge, and the Cranborne Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
You’ll explore Wiltshire’s rich countryside, with occasional stops to take in the views and learn about the area’s history.
This tour is ideal for cyclists with a good level of fitness and confidence in handling mountain bikes. The route covers a variety of terrains, including roots and loose stones, so you’ll need to be comfortable with challenging climbs and descents.
