Snowy forest and frozen lakes around Lehtojärvi are the setting for this private snowmobile outing. You'll ride with your own group of up to eight, after a driving lesson and with the equipment included. Pickup in Rovaniemi is part of the plan, and no previous snowmobile experience is needed.
After a short driving lesson you leave the start on a snowmobile of your own, with a professional guide setting a pace that suits the group. The lesson covers how the machine steers, how to brake on snow, and how you stay in line on the trail. Equipment is fitted before you move, so you are dressed for the cold before the first stretch of forest.
The route then runs through varied winter country, across snowy woods and open lake ice, with room to stop for photographs and to take the scenery at a leisurely pace. The safari stays with your party alone, so the schedule can flex around who is riding and how confident they feel. Four hours gives you time to settle into the machine rather than a short blast out and back.
Lehtojärvi sits in the winter country outside Rovaniemi, where forest tracks open onto frozen lakes. You travel there with us from the city, so you do not need to find the trailhead yourself or drive a snowmobile on public roads.
We collect you in Rovaniemi. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out. A return drop-off is not part of this outing, and we will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time.
A driving licence is required for this outing. Previous snowmobile experience is not necessary. Driving training and the equipment you need are included, and we treat the first kilometres as a lesson rather than a race.
You should be comfortable sitting on a machine for a few hours in Finnish winter weather and happy to follow a guide on a marked winter trail. Wear warm layers and winter boots under the kit we give you. Tell us who is coming so we can shape the ride around your group.
Private forest and lake land about thirty minutes from Rovaniemi, across more than 500 hectares, is where this family has been looking after visitors since 1979. Finnish guides now in a third generation keep the outing to your own group, with a flexible pace and photo stops rather than a fixed coach timetable.
The safari is built for families, friends or work groups who want the trail to themselves. Driving training is part of the four hours, so first-time riders can learn the machine before the longer forest and lake stretches.
The run out from Rovaniemi takes you toward Lehtojärvi and the winter trails around the lake. On arrival we fit the equipment you need for the cold and talk through the plan for the four hours. Wear your own warm layers for the transfer, as you will go from the vehicle straight into the lesson.
Driving training comes before the longer stretches of forest. Your guide covers steering, braking on snow, and how you stay in line on the trail, then you try those inputs at a calm pace. The lesson is part of the outing, not a rushed briefing on the side of the track. No previous snowmobile experience is expected.
Once the controls feel familiar, the route runs through snowy woods and across open lake ice. Photo stops are part of the plan, and the pace stays with your own group rather than a mixed party. Four hours gives you time to enjoy the country around Lehtojärvi instead of turning back after a short blast.
You do not need any snowmobile background. Driving training is included, and we start with how the machine steers, how to brake on snow, and how you stay in line behind the guide before the longer stretches of forest and lake.
The first kilometres stay calm on purpose. Tell us if anyone in the group wants extra time on the lesson, and we will keep that block slower until the controls feel natural. The outing is private, so there is no mixed party waiting to push on.
A driving licence is required for this outing. Bring the licence with you on the day so we can check it before anyone starts the machine. We cannot put a guest on a snowmobile without that document.
If some people in your group will ride as passengers rather than drivers, tell us in advance so we can plan who sits where. Drivers still need a licence. The training covers the trail manners we use on these lakes and in the woods.
This is an easy ride rather than a long hike. You should be comfortable sitting on a snowmobile for a few hours, holding the handlebars, and spending time outdoors in Finnish winter weather between stops.
Dress in warm layers you can add or remove under the kit we give you, and wear winter boots with a decent sole. We can pause for photographs and to warm your hands before the next stretch of trail.
The safari is private for your own group of up to eight, and it suits families, friends or a work party who want the trail to themselves. Tell us the ages in your group so we can say whether the four hours and the machines will suit everyone who wants to come.
Everyone who joins should be able to sit on a snowmobile and follow simple safety instructions from the guide. Drivers need a licence. Bring extra layers for younger guests, as they cool down faster once you stop moving.
Wear warm layers, a hat and winter boots under the equipment we provide. Four hours on an open machine will cool you faster than a winter walk through town, especially when you stop on the lake for photographs.
Bring sunglasses if the snow is bright, and a small dry bag for your phone. Have your driving licence and your hotel or cabin address ready so we can plan pickup in Rovaniemi and check who will drive.
The outing is four hours in all. That includes pickup in Rovaniemi, the driving lesson, time on forest and lake trails, and photo stops at a pace that suits your group.
We keep the schedule flexible so first-time riders can settle into the machine. The route is not a race. We will confirm timings once we have your address and know how many people are riding.
The session needs sound winter conditions, so we watch the temperature, the snow and the state of the lakes before we set out. Soft ice, a sudden thaw or very heavy snowfall can mean we have to move your time or stop the day.
If we cannot run, we will be in touch as early as we can with the next step. Please treat this as a winter activity that depends on the trail staying safe, not as an indoor session that runs in any weather.
Pickup in Rovaniemi is included. Share your hotel or cabin address so we can plan the run out toward Lehtojärvi. We will send you a time once that address is with us, and please be ready a few minutes before we arrive.
This outing does not include a return drop-off. We will confirm how you get back into town when we set the meeting time, so you are not left guessing at the trailhead. Stays far from the city may need you to make your own way in first.
Meals and drinks are not part of this outing, so eat before we collect you or bring a small snack of your own. The four hours are about the lesson, the ride and the landscape, not a sit-down meal on the ice.
Your guide runs the session and looks after the machines. Pack the warm layers and boots you already own. If you have questions about what we will have with us on the day, ask us in advance.
Many guests have never sat on a snowmobile, and that is a normal starting point. The driving lesson comes first, and we keep the opening kilometres slow so you can feel how the machine turns and stops on snow.
Your guide stays with the group for the whole ride. Tell us if you want to stay slower for longer, and we will keep the pace at that level until you are ready to add a little speed. The outing is private, so there is no mixed group waiting behind you.

About the centre
Rovaniemi
You'll spend your days on private forest and lake land outside Rovaniemi, where ice-track driving, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and fishing sit alongside quiet time by the fire. This is a family that has been looking after visitors in Finnish Lapland since 1979, now in its third generation, with Finnish guides who know the ground.
We'll collect you from around Rovaniemi, kit you for the cold, and keep the outing to your own group on private land. Jesse and the team shape each session around how you want to spend the day, from a first hour on the ice track to a longer evening under the northern lights.
