🚵 What to Expect
Expect a demanding guided day that links famous technical trails and quieter gems when conditions allow. Your guide shows lines, manages the pace and keeps the group flowing like locals, with coaching cues on the features that matter most rather than a silent follow-the-leader spin.
Exact linking of trails depends on weather, trail conditions and the group's skill on the day. The emphasis stays on controlled, confident riding across rocky, steep and memorable ground, not on racing the clock or forcing Black features in poor conditions.
📍 Location
The Dark Peak is home to some of the Peak District's most characterful descents: rocky, steep and memorable when you know where to look. Named classics often include The Beast, Hagg Farm and Lockerbrook, Cavedale, Jacobs Ladder and Devils Elbow, alongside quieter gems that reward local knowledge.
Meeting is commonly at the Bike Garage on Hope Road in Bamford, postcode S33 0AL, a practical start for loops into this area. If a different start suits the route that day, you will be told before you travel so you can plan parking and arrival time.
✅ Prerequisites
You should already be confident on technical mountain bike terrain and happy on Red trails, with appetite for Black features when conditions allow. This is not a beginners coaching day; if you are still building confidence on Green and Blue trails, book the Derwent Valley beginners ride first.
Bring fitness for roughly 40 km and about 1000 m of climbing in a day, plus a capable bike and helmet suited to rocky Peak descents, or hire arranged separately. Riders must be 18 or over unless the guide has agreed otherwise for a specific booking.
⭐ Why Choose Us
Your guide holds the British Cycling Level 3 MBLA qualification, with first aid, child protection and insurance cover, plus planning and on-trail mechanic support so demanding days stay controlled. Small private groups keep the pace matched to the people you ride with.
On technical Dark Peak ground, a guide is your map, compass and line coach in one. You are shown where to look, how to link features and how to keep flowing through rocky descents so you ride nearer your full potential instead of picking cautious lines that leave the best moments unused.
