This is a long day in the saddle from Ruka toward the wild edges of Oulanka National Park, built for riders who want distance, climbing and iconic scenery in one go. Myllykoski rapids and the red rock walls of Kiutakongas anchor a route that rewards stamina with some of Lapland's most dramatic views.
An early briefing at Scenic Tower Tykky launches the group onto gravel heading toward Oulanka, with your guide setting a rhythm that balances climbing, distance and time to look around. Energy sweets on the trail keep legs turning between the bigger stops, and water breaks are planned before the sightseeing sections.
Myllykoski and Kiutakongas break up the day with short walks from the bikes to roaring water and famous red cliffs. Lunch is not included, but café and shop stops on route let you buy food if you want. The afternoon return toward Ruka eases in pace so the group finishes tired but proud rather than emptied out.
Oulanka National Park edges are where rivers cut through ancient rock and forest runs unbroken for miles. Reaching that country by gravel bike from Ruka keeps you in the landscape for hours rather than glimpsing it from a window.
Rivers, red rock and rolling gravel define the second half of the route especially. Climbs open wide views, descents reward the morning effort, and the landmarks at Myllykoski and Kiutakongas feel earned when you arrive under your own power.
Experienced riders with strong legs and confidence on loose gravel for six to seven hours outdoors will enjoy this day most. Short hikes off the bike at the viewpoints are part of the experience, so shoes that work on foot as well as in the pedals matter.
A serviced gravel bike, helmet, small backpack, weather-proof layers and extra snacks should all come with you. Rental partners in Ruka are available if needed once your place is confirmed.
Wilderness navigation stays with your guide, leaving you to concentrate on the ride and the scenery unfolding mile by mile. Long days are planned with pacing, safety and the best stops in mind, not as a race to tick off distance.
The day is demanding, but never hurried for show. Small groups, professional practice in remote country and a steady group rhythm mean you finish having seen Oulanka properly, not just passed through it.
Early meet at the Scenic Tower Tykky for route briefing, safety checks and pacing plan for the long day. The group rolls out on gravel toward Oulanka, with the guide setting a rhythm that balances distance and scenery.

Stop at Myllykoski old mill and the roaring rapids, then continue to Kiutakongas for the famous red rock walls. Short hikes from the bikes bring you to the best viewpoints before the return leg toward Ruka.
Complete the return gravel loop to the meeting point. There is time to debrief, stretch tired legs and share highlights from the day before you head back to your accommodation.

This is our most demanding gravel day, with around six to seven hours in the saddle and climbs that reward fit riders. You should be comfortable on loose gravel, able to manage longer distances and happy hiking briefly to viewpoints at Myllykoski and Kiutakongas.
Your guide maintains a relaxed group pace, but the cumulative distance and climbing still require solid preparation and confidence on the bike.
Lunch is not included, but there are several options on route. The Oulanka National Park Visitor Centre summer restaurant is available before Kiutakongas, and Sale Market on the planned route offers snacks for a self-paid stop.
Bring extra energy food and plan for a self-paid lunch if you want to eat at the visitor centre. Energy sweets are provided on the bike during the ride.
Each guide works with up to eight riders on this wilderness day. That small-group format matters when pacing and support make the difference between a great ride and a rushed one.
