Perched above the city, Frognerseteren serves as one of the main gateways into Oslo's famous winter recreation areas. During the snowy season, the surrounding forests become a playground for skiing, snowshoeing and outdoor adventures.
Extending far beyond the city limits, the wider Nordmarka region offers countless kilometres of forest trails and natural landscapes. Snowshoeing allows visitors to experience these environments away from busy roads and urban surroundings.
Previous snowshoeing experience is not required, as full instruction is provided before the walk begins.
Warm winter clothing and suitable winter boots are essential. Snowshoes and poles are provided, but footwear must be brought by each guest.
Experienced local guides help make snowshoeing accessible to everyone, regardless of previous experience. Their knowledge of the area allows guests to discover beautiful winter scenery while learning more about Norway's outdoor traditions.
Offering a balance of adventure, nature and cultural insight, this experience provides a genuine taste of winter life in Oslo without requiring advanced outdoor skills or specialist knowledge.
Absolutely not. This tour is specifically designed to be suitable for complete beginners as well as those who have used snowshoes before.
Before entering the forest, your guide will explain how the equipment works, how to walk comfortably and what to expect during the experience.
Snowshoes are specially designed frames that attach to your boots and spread your weight across a larger surface area.
This prevents you from sinking deeply into soft snow and allows you to walk through winter landscapes that would otherwise be difficult to access on foot.
Yes, all snowshoeing equipment required for the activity is provided.
Guests receive both snowshoes and poles, along with guidance from the instructor on how to use them effectively throughout the walk.
Warm, waterproof winter boots are strongly recommended for comfort and safety.
Snowshoes attach directly to your own footwear, so it is important that boots are sturdy and suitable for snowy conditions.
The forests around Oslo support a variety of wildlife including deer, foxes, hares and many bird species.
While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, winter conditions can sometimes make animal tracks easier to spot and identify.
A reasonable level of fitness is recommended, but the activity is not designed as an extreme challenge.
The pace remains manageable and includes opportunities to stop, enjoy the scenery and learn more about the surrounding environment.
Most guests are surprised by how quickly they adapt to walking with snowshoes.
Within a short time, even first-time participants usually feel comfortable moving through the snow and enjoying the experience.
