This activity is a welcoming introduction to quad biking in the hills behind the Costa del Sol, and you will share a two-seat quad with a friend or partner while an experienced guide leads the convoy. We keep the pace steady and the briefing thorough, so first-time riders can focus on the views over Málaga province rather than worrying about the machine.
You will arrive a little early so we can run through check-in, helmet fitting and a clear safety briefing before anyone leaves the yard. Your guide explains how the quad handles on gravel and dust, demonstrates braking and spacing in convoy, and only then sets off at a calm pace that lets nervous riders settle in quickly.
On the trail you follow a scenic loop with planned photo stops overlooking pine slopes and open valleys. The route uses gentle terrain and wide tracks where the group can stay together, and your guide points out landmarks while reminding everyone how to ride responsibly through the countryside we share with walkers and wildlife.
Las Lagunas de Mijas sits just inland from the Mediterranean, with quick access to trail networks in the Mijas hills, so you reach open countryside within minutes of leaving the base. That makes the session easy to slot into a beach holiday whether you are staying in Fuengirola, Mijas pueblo or further along the coast.
The landscape mixes rolling hills, forest edges and distant sea views on clear days, and it feels like classic Andalusian backcountry: quiet tracks, big skies and a sense of space that contrasts with the busy coastal strip below.
Anyone who plans to drive must hold a full Category B car licence and bring the original document to check-in, because we verify it before helmets go on and the briefing begins. Passengers do not need a licence but should be comfortable sitting on the quad for the full hour over dusty, uneven tracks.
Wear comfortable outdoor clothes and sturdy closed shoes, and bring sunglasses, sunscreen and a bottle of water because the routes are exposed and the sun can feel strong even when there is a breeze. A light layer helps in cooler months, and a bandana or dust mask can make the ride more pleasant when the trails are dry.
We have guided quad safaris here for more than ten years and know these routes in every season, from spring wildflowers to summer dust and autumn light on the ridges. Our quads are maintained between groups, and our guides focus on safety, scenery and a welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive at the yard.
Whether you feel nervous or already excited to ride, we tailor the briefing and pace to your group so you leave with great photos and a story to tell back at the hotel, without any pressure to ride faster or tackle terrain beyond your comfort zone.
You do not need any previous experience, because this route is designed for newcomers and your guide stays with you from the practice area through the whole loop. We explain the controls in plain language, let you try throttle and steering in a safe space, and only head onto the trail when everyone feels ready.
If you have never ridden before, tell us at check-in so we can allow a few extra minutes to build confidence, and remember that the pace stays relaxed throughout the hour so you can enjoy the scenery without feeling rushed.
Comfortable clothes you can move in and closed sports shoes work best, because open sandals and heels are not suitable on the footrests and dusty trails. Think of what you would wear for a hike with a bit of wind, then add sun protection because there is little shade on the ridges.
Bring a bottle of water and consider a light layer if you are riding in cooler months, and expect dust on dry days so older clothes are a sensible choice even though we provide helmets and basic safety kit at the base.
Each quad has a driver seat and one passenger seat, so couples and friends often ride together on a single machine and simply decide who drives before you set off. Only the person steering needs a valid Category B car licence, and your guide will confirm who is driving during the briefing at the yard.
Passengers follow the same helmet and safety rules as drivers, and we show you how to sit securely and brace lightly over bumps so both of you feel steady from the first section of track.
We start with paperwork and helmet fitting, then walk through brakes, throttle and how to follow the guide in convoy with a safe following distance. You get a short practice in a controlled area next to the base before the scenic loop begins, and questions are welcome at any point.
We would rather take an extra minute at the yard than rush anyone who feels unsure, because a calm start makes the whole hour more enjoyable for the group and easier for our guides to lead responsibly on shared trails.
Expect rolling hills, pine forest and viewpoints where you can look back toward the coast on clear days, with the loop planned to pack memorable views into a single hour on the trails. Your guide will pause at safe spots for photos so you are not trying to snap pictures while the quad is moving.
Light changes quickly in the mountains, so morning and afternoon departures each have their own character, and we are happy to point out landmarks and villages in the distance when visibility is good.
We monitor conditions closely and will contact you if we need to adjust the start time or move your session to a better slot, because light cloud often still makes for a pleasant ride while heavy rain or strong wind can make the trails unsafe.
If we decide conditions are not suitable, we will work with you to find another time rather than pushing ahead, and your guide makes the final call on the day with safety as the priority for riders and for the environment.
The quad is fuelled and prepared before you arrive, and there is nothing extra to pay for fuel when you return to the yard at the end of the ride. Our team handles routine checks between departures so you can focus on the route with your guide.
If you notice anything unusual during the briefing, such as a loose mirror or an unfamiliar noise, mention it straight away so we can swap or adjust the machine before anyone leaves the base.
Please aim to arrive about twenty minutes before your start time so registration, licence checks and helmet fitting do not eat into your riding time on the trails. There is parking near the base, and staff will direct you on busy weekends when several groups are checking in at once.
Arriving a little early also gives you time to use the facilities, apply sunscreen and ask any last questions before the guide gathers the group for the safety talk.
We stop at planned viewpoints where you can use your phone or camera safely, because riding one-handed on rough track is not allowed and we want everyone to keep both hands ready for steering and braking. Your guide can suggest angles at each stop so you go home with shots that show the landscape and the quads in action.
If you are travelling as a pair, those stops are a good moment to swap who is driving so both of you appear in photos without compromising safety on the move.
This is a guided nature route with clear rules against overtaking, drifting or reckless riding, and we want you to enjoy the views at a steady pace that suits the whole group. Guides may pause the convoy if rules are ignored, because everyone shares the same trail and we protect the environment as well as our guests.
The focus is on convoy discipline, respect for other trail users and leaving the hills as you found them, which is why we train every guide to set expectations firmly but warmly at the briefing.
