Activity Highlights:

A truly extraordinary sailing adventure, The North West Passage Expedition, is in the making for Summer 2025 and is being run by one of Adventuro’s closest partner centres.

They have given us the exciting (and exclusive!) opportunity to enable you to register your interest in the absolutely epic adventure.

When bookings open and pricing and itinerary is finalised, you will be the first to know and be able to book through Adventuro.

Often described as the Everest of Sailing, this expedition offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore one of the world’s last uncharted territories.

This is your chance to be a part of an exclusive group taking on the thrill of a lifetime.

Key Details

  • Dates: June – August 2025
  • Location: Starting in Oban, Scotland, and sailing through Greenland to the North West Passage
  • Expedition Leader: Jim Dobie, a globally experienced Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster Examiner.

Key Skills

This is not a voyage for the faint-hearted; it’s hands-on sailing! As part of our crew, you will be deeply involved in:

  • Preparation & Planning: From rigging to route selection, you’ll contribute to all aspects of the expedition.
  • Execution: Engage in real-time decision-making and problem-solving during the journey.

Your expedition starts in the scenic coastal town of Oban, Scotland, and takes you across the frigid beauty of Greenland, culminating in the historic crossing of the North West Passage.

Training – Oban, Scotland

Before setting sail, you’ll go through rigorous training exercises to prepare you for Arctic conditions.

Leg One – Oban to Greenland

Acclimatise to the demands of high-latitude sailing and start spotting incredible wildlife. Polar bears, seals, walruses and narwhale, beluga and bowhead whales are a few of the animals you might see.

Leg Two – The North West Passage

This is where the real challenge begins. A 900-mile stretch, less than 1,200 miles from the North Pole, navigating through shifting ice floes and narrow sea passages.

Your Skipper

A Seasoned Skipper and RYA Yachtmaster Examiner, Jim has navigated nearly all the world’s oceans, leading adventurous expeditions to far-flung destinations like the Galapagos, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, and Tasmania. Beyond sailing, Jim is also a Scuba Diving Instructor, having orchestrated underwater expeditions in the Great Barrier Reef and throughout Oceania and Asia. With a strong history in competitive sailing, he served as the skipper for the 2009-2010 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race and has participated in five Sydney to Hobart races, two Fastnet races, the Round Britain and Ireland Race, among other prestigious offshore events.

Jim will be accompanied by a highly qualified first mate throughout the expedition.

We’re in the process of finalising a yacht exclusively tailored for this expedition. Once secured, the vessel will be outfitted with state-of-the-art safety gear to guarantee the utmost in security and comfort for our high-latitude adventure.

Given the expedition’s intensity, all crew members will require prior training and experience of sailing in Arctic conditions.

We’re also organising preparatory trips to Norway, Svalbard, Iceland, and Greenland in early 2024 to ensure you’re up to the challenge.
