Sail a luxury French monohull or catamaran on Bahía de Banderas with appetizers, premium bar service and attentive crew. Choose sunset for golden-hour coast views or a day sail with a swim or snorkel stop when anchoring is calm. The focus is relaxed cruising and open-water scenery, not a high-capacity party-boat pace.
Check in at Mástil 13 in Puerto Vallarta or Paseo de las Palmas in Nuevo Vallarta, board the assigned sailboat and listen to a safety briefing as lines are released and appetizers and drink service begin on deck. The captain works the bay for smooth tacking while hosts serve food and drinks, and day departures may anchor briefly for snorkel or paddle boarding when swell is manageable.
Sunset departures lean into golden-hour views with premium bar service and low-volume music, then crew stow lines and prepare for docking as you approach the marina. A comfortable level of general fitness helps on pier steps, and hosts adjust service timing so you can enjoy the sail without feeling hurried at the end of the window.
Sails run on Bahía de Banderas with views of the Sierra Madre and Puerto Vallarta shoreline from open water, using the same marina check-in points as other premium boat products. Boarding at Mástil or the Nuevo Vallarta office happens before lines are released, with the route chosen for wind and guest comfort rather than a fixed mile count every day.
Winter sunsets paint the bay and city hills in warm light, while midday departures emphasise swim stops when anchorages are calm enough for ladder access. French-built luxury vessels keep guest counts lower than large party catamarans you may see elsewhere in the harbour.
Minimum age is ten years, and no sailing or snorkel experience is required on day departures when swim stops open. Bring a light sweater for sunset breeze, swimwear under casual clothes if you plan to enter the water, and flat shoes for deck and pier steps.
We recommend a comfortable level of general fitness for boarding and moving on deck during a three-hour sail. Reef-safe sunscreen and sunglasses reduce glare; mention dietary preferences when you arrive so hosts can advise what appetizers and bar options are available.
Luxury sail departures use French monohulls and catamarans crewed by teams with twenty-plus years on Bahía de Banderas. PADI five-star boat operations heritage shows in briefings, line handling and guest service on deck, whether you choose sunset colours or a midday lunch sail.
Hosts serve food and drinks while the skipper picks a smooth tack across the bay, which keeps the three-hour window feeling unhurried. The same attention to wind and guest comfort applies to both departure types, with crew experience showing most when swell or harbour traffic shifts the return timing slightly.
Check in at Mástil 13 or Paseo de las Palmas 39 per the departure at check-in. Bring photo ID.
Allow extra time for traffic near marinas during busy holiday weeks.
Light sweater, swimwear for day sail, reef-safe sunscreen, flat shoes for deck.
Guests aged ten and older are welcome with a responsible adult where required. You should be comfortable on a sailing catamaran for several hours, with the option to snorkel or paddle on day departures when the crew open the water.
We recommend a comfortable level of general health. Sunset sailings are more about deck time and drinks than a long swim, so you can stay dry if you prefer.
Check in at Mástil 13 in Puerto Vallarta. Staff confirm the pontoon and sailing, whether you are on a shorter sunset departure or a longer day sail with lunch.
Arrive early with photo ID. Marina parking and a short walk to the catamaran add minutes, and the crew brief safety before lines are released.
Make your own way to Mástil 13. Hotel collection is not part of this sail unless staff confirm a pickup for your hotel that evening or morning.
Transport to and from the meeting point is your responsibility. A taxi drop-off at the marina is simpler than parking through the return under sail.
Appetizers and a premium open bar are part of the standard sail. Day-sail departures add a deli or lunch service, while sunset trips keep the focus on drinks and light bites as the light drops.
Tell the host about allergies at check-in. Bring a refillable bottle as well, because sun and breeze on the trampoline dehydrate you faster than a restaurant table.
Snorkel or paddle gear is offered on day departures when the captain finds a calm stop. Sunset sailings often stay under way for the light, so a swim is less likely on those shorter trips.
If the bay is lively, the crew keep you on deck with food and drinks. Ask at Mástil 13 which departure you are on so you know whether to pack a towel for the water.
Sunset sailings last about three hours. Day sails with lunch run longer, typically around the five-hour mark, still returning to Mástil 13.
Wildlife pauses for dolphins or seasonal whales can add a few minutes. You are not left to find your own taxi from a different marina.
A port fee in Mexican pesos may be collected at check-in. Keep cash for the desk because that harbour charge sits outside the online fare.
Gratuities and personal extras are not included. Ask the host for the peso amount before you walk the pontoon.
The captain needs workable wind and sea state. If a storm sits on the bay they may delay, motor more, or shorten the outbound leg so the return still happens in daylight or at sunset as planned.
Ask at Mástil 13 if a north swell is running. Open-bar time on deck still happens in a sheltered motor when sails are a poor idea.
Soft shoes or bare feet, a cover-up over swimwear, a hat and reef-safe sunscreen suit this deck. Evening sailings feel cooler once the sun drops, so bring a light layer.
A small dry bag is enough for phones and a spare shirt. Leave hard suitcases at the hotel; the trampoline is not a luggage hold.
Friends who book together share the same sailing whenever capacity allows. Groups of around fifteen often fit one departure, with the host seating you so conversation stays easy during drinks.
If you are marking a birthday or a proposal, tell the crew at check-in. They can hold a quieter corner of the trampoline when the passenger mix allows.

About the centre
Puerto Vallarta
For more than twenty years, teams on the Bahía de Banderas have been running boat days, jungle routes, and ocean activities for visitors who want more than a beach afternoon. Trips leave from the Puerto Vallarta area toward islands, hidden coves, and forest canopy lines, with bilingual guides handling safety briefings and the pace of the day.
You'll find PADI dive instructors, sailing crews, and adventure guides under one roof, which makes it easier to mix snorkelling mornings with ATV or zipline afternoons without juggling separate operators. Equipment checks, transport to launch points, and meal stops on longer tours are organised as part of the experience rather than left for you to arrange alone.
