A catamaran day from Playa Langosta: a reef snorkel, time in Isla Mujeres town, and a trainer-led dolphin session later on. Masks and life jackets go on before you get in the sea. You meet the boat at the marina and come back with the same group.
The boat leaves Playa Langosta and sails toward a snorkel near Punta Sam, kit fitted on board and the entry explained before you get in. The morning is the sail and the reef. The island and the dolphins come after, so the day has a shape you can feel.
In town you have time ashore, then the dolphin session with a trainer and a fresh briefing, because their signals are not the boat crew's signals. You return with the same group once those parts are done.
You are on the water between Cancún and Isla Mujeres, leaving from the marina on the Cancún side. The snorkel is on the reef, the later wander is in the island town, and the dolphins are at a marine habitat, a calm pen after the open water.
The crew moves you between boat, town and habitat as one plan. Wind on the channel picks the snorkel mooring, they tell you before you kit up, and the pen is calmer than the reef you were just in, which the trainer uses to keep everyone close.
Most of the day is outdoors, on deck and then at the habitat, so sun cream, a hat and water on the boat will matter. Shade is limited once you have left the marina.
For the reef and the dolphin session, be comfortable in a life jacket and able to follow the person leading that part. Each of them explains their own signals before you enter, so you are not carrying boat rules into the pen.
The reef and the dolphins are led by different people, and each one briefs you before you enter their water, which keeps both parts enjoyable. Life jackets go back on for the reef even if you took them off on deck, and the crew checks them at the swim step.
The boat crew keeps the timetable between the reef, the town and the dolphin time, and they gather you before each move. They would rather hold the boat for two minutes than lose someone between the town and the habitat. If swell shifts the snorkel, they say where you will swim before you leave the deck.
Hotel lobby pickup applies on routes that include transport; be ready at the stated departure time with photo ID for children if parks require it.
Self drivers receive meeting point coordinates and parking notes from the operator ahead of the activity date.
You should come ready for a sail, a reef snorkel and a dolphin session. Most of the time is outside, so the heat is as much a part of the day as the activity itself.
Take water when you need it, and tell the guide at the start if you want a slower place in the group. That is much easier than trying to catch them once everyone is already moving.
A meal is not part of this visit, so eat beforehand and bring water with you. A snack in your bag is useful if you get hungry between stops.
Bring more water than you expect to drink if you are out over the middle of the day. A hat makes the sunny stretches much easier.
Light rain does not usually stop the visit. Lightning, a rough sea or a track that is too soft can shorten or move a section, and the guide explains that before you continue.
You will hear the change before you kit up for the next part. The group stays together while that decision is made.
Children can join when they can follow the briefing with an adult beside them. The guide will say before a section starts if it is not suitable for someone in your group.
They need to be able to listen to the safety talk and stay with the group. The same briefing applies to adults and to children.
You should be comfortable wearing a life jacket and following the guide in the water. You do not need to be a strong swimmer.
The guide stays nearby and calls the group out together. If you would like to stay closer to the entry, say so before you get in.
You can bring a phone or a camera if it is secure and you can spare a hand. Ask the crew before you attach anything to a helmet, a harness or a handlebar.
If someone is taking photos for the group that day, the crew will say so when you arrive. They will also tell you where to collect them afterwards.
If a ruin, a reserve or a beach asks for a local payment, the guide explains it before you get to the entrance. It helps to have a little cash with you in case that happens.
Tips for the crew are your own choice at the end of the day. The guide is the person to ask if you are not sure what a site is asking for.
Bring a dry bag for a phone and anything else you want to keep dry. Ask the crew when you arrive if there is somewhere to change and leave a bag.
Put your name on anything you set down. The group moves between stops, and bags are easy to mix up.
A phone in a waterproof pouch is the simplest option on a boat or in the water. Ask the crew before you strap a camera to a helmet or a machine.
Drones and flash are often not allowed near wildlife or at the ruins. Follow what the guide and the site ask on the day.
Wear light clothes you can move in, closed shoes, and a hat. This includes a boat and the water, so sun cream and a bottle of water are worth having from the start.
Bring swimwear underneath if the visit includes a swim, and a dry layer for the van or the boat. Secure anything you do not want to lose.
