This stretch of the Wild Coast offers one of the easiest and most relaxed ways to experience multi-day coastal hiking in South Africa. Routes stay close to the ocean, linking wide beaches, river mouths, grassy headlands, and quiet footpaths, with daily distances that allow plenty of time for swims, breaks, and unhurried lunches along the way. The terrain remains mostly flat, making it suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness rather than technical hiking experience.
Evenings are spent in long-established coastal hotels and guesthouses, where comfort is part of the appeal. Expect proper beds, hot showers, and generous meals, often featuring fresh seafood when available. With luggage carried for you and meals taken care of, walking days are genuinely relaxed, allowing you to arrive mid-afternoon and enjoy the setting rather than recovering from exhaustion.
Several route options run along this same coastline, ranging from short long-weekend escapes to classic five-night journeys. These can be adjusted with rest days, altered start points, or added hiking sections depending on time, fitness, and how slow or social you want the trip to feel.
The hotel-hopping trails run southwards along the Lower Wild Coast, from the Qora River near Kob Inn down to Chintsa, with an optional inland extension along the Kwelerha River. Daily hiking distances average around 13 km, with some longer options reaching 16β19 km depending on the chosen itinerary. Paths follow beaches, grassy tracks, and estuary crossings, staying close to the coast throughout.
Four main formats are offered:
Each option can be shortened, extended, or adapted with non-hiking days at any of the hotels.
This trail is designed around comfort, flow, and sensible pacing rather than covering maximum distance. Accommodation has been selected for location and consistency, allowing each walking day to end somewhere welcoming rather than simply convenient. Meals, transfers, and daily logistics are organised in advance, so you never need to worry about where youβre going next or how your luggage will get there.
Guides are included on scheduled hiking days for most itineraries, providing reassurance at river crossings, sharing local knowledge, and setting a comfortable pace. Luggage handling is adapted to the terrain, using vehicles where roads allow and porters in the more remote northern sections. Fully catered trips are the standard, with partially catered options available on request for those wanting a bit more independence.

Accommodation is in characterful coastal hotels and guesthouses, each with its own atmosphere but a shared focus on comfort and good food. Rooms include double, twin, and family options, with en-suite facilities where available.
Meals are a central part of the experience, with cooked breakfasts, packed lunches for hiking days, and relaxed evening dinners. Upgrade rooms and additional nights can be arranged at most stops, subject to availability.
