Indoor climbing is a fantastic way to challenge yourself physically and mentally, and this beginner course is the perfect introduction. Over two structured sessions, you’ll be taught all the key skills needed to climb safely and confidently. With guidance from experienced instructors and equipment provided, you’ll finish ready to take on the climbing wall with independence.
The course is split into two three-hour sessions, each carefully planned to cover the foundations of top rope climbing. In the first session, you’ll focus on the essentials such as putting on your harness, tying the correct knots, and understanding how to belay. These skills are practised under the close supervision of your instructor, ensuring you gain confidence with the safety systems before moving on.
The second session builds on those basics, giving you the chance to refine your climbing technique while learning how to move efficiently on the wall. You’ll revisit belaying to reinforce your knowledge and get plenty of climbing time to apply what you’ve learned. By the end, you’ll have the skills to climb independently on bottom rope walls, with a solid grasp of both the technical and practical elements of indoor climbing.
The sessions take place at a dedicated indoor climbing centre in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Easily accessible by car or public transport, the centre is located within Hornbeam Park and offers modern facilities with a wide range of climbing routes.
The venue is designed to accommodate climbers of all abilities, making it an ideal place to learn. Whether you’re local or travelling in, you’ll find everything you need for a safe and enjoyable climbing experience, with staff on hand to offer support and guidance.
No prior climbing experience is needed to join this course. It is specifically designed for complete beginners or those who may have climbed casually and now want to build a solid foundation.
All you need is comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement, and socks to wear with the climbing shoes provided. Everything else is included in your course.
The centre is run by a passionate team of instructors who genuinely enjoy introducing people to climbing. Their approach is welcoming, patient, and supportive, ensuring you feel comfortable as you learn at your own pace.
It all began in 2012 when two friends took a winter climbing trip to Austria, sparking the idea that grew into today’s centre. With years of experience and a focus on making climbing accessible, they’ve created an environment where anyone can start their climbing journey with confidence.
