Cover Iceland’s most famous long-distance trail on foot, travelling from the geothermal landscapes of Landmannalaugar to the sheltered valley of Þórsmörk. This three-day trek focuses on steady progress, experienced guiding and logistics that let you concentrate on the walking rather than the planning.
The plan is to hike the full Laugavegur route over three days, staying in mountain huts and carrying only a daypack. Transport, accommodation, meals and luggage transfers are arranged in advance, allowing you to focus on the trail itself. Distances are significant, terrain is varied, and weather can change quickly, so this trek is aimed at hikers with good fitness and previous experience of long mountain days.
The trek runs through Iceland’s southern highlands, starting in Landmannalaugar and finishing in Þórsmörk. The route passes volcanic deserts, glacier-fed valleys and exposed mountain passes, with overnight stays at Álftavatn and Emstrur huts.
The main meeting point is Brú Base Camp on Road 249 near Hvolsvöllur. Transport to and from the trailheads is included.
This trek is rated Challenging. Participants should be experienced hikers in good physical condition, comfortable with consecutive long walking days and carrying a daypack for several hours at a time.
You should be prepared for variable weather, river crossings on foot, and uneven terrain. Proper footwear and layered clothing are essential.
Covering the Laugavegur safely requires careful pacing, weather awareness and route knowledge. The itinerary is designed to balance distance with recovery, using established huts and planned meal stops.
Guides are experienced highland leaders with strong local knowledge, many with Search and Rescue backgrounds. Luggage transport and hut bookings are handled in advance, keeping the focus on the hiking rather than logistics.
