Your day begins with a drive from Pucón to the park entrance, where guides provide an overview of the trail, safety instructions, and details about the park’s ecosystem. The Los Lagos trail winds through native forest, allowing you to admire diverse plant life and spot local bird species as you hike. You’ll visit several lakes and ponds along the way, each offering tranquil spots to rest, take photos, or simply enjoy the surroundings.
Midway through the hike, you’ll encounter two small waterfalls where guides explain the geology and natural features of the park. The trail maintains a gentle elevation gain, making it accessible while still offering rewarding views over forested slopes and distant peaks. You’ll return along the same route, reflecting on the forest experience and enjoying the peaceful scenery as you descend back to the park entrance.
Huerquehue National Park is located a short drive from Pucón in Chile’s Araucanía region. The park is characterised by its native forests, ponds, waterfalls, and volcanic terrain, providing a varied and picturesque environment for hikers.
Trails are well-marked and maintained to ensure safety while protecting natural habitats. The park is home to a range of flora and fauna, including endemic plants and bird species, making it a perfect spot for nature observation and quiet exploration.
You should have a basic level of fitness to complete the 16 km round trip with a 730 m elevation gain. No technical skills are required, but comfort walking on uneven forest paths is important.
