Explore the beautiful North Wessex Downs on a 27-mile guided cycling adventure, uncovering hidden gems and rich history. Led by Steve, your personal guide, you'll wind through charming villages and cycle along the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal. Your ride will take you to a replica of the Bamberg Green Man, subtly carved into a tree, waiting to be found by the keen-eyed rider. This experience combines natural beauty, history, and cycling for an unforgettable day out.
Your adventure begins at Totteridge Farm in the scenic Vale of Pewsey. After a brief introduction to the day's route, you'll set off along quiet roads and bridleways, immersing yourself in the rolling countryside of the North Wessex Downs. As you cycle, you’ll pass through quaint villages, reminiscent of times gone by, where the thatched roofs and historic buildings add to the charm.
Following the route, you’ll ride alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal. This historic waterway, completed in 1810, served as a vital link between Reading and Bath. Steve will share fascinating stories about its construction and significance as you cycle by. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, with Red Kites often spotted overhead.
The highlight of the ride is the Green Man, subtly carved into a tree along a woodland trail. To catch a glimpse, you'll need to keep a steady pace and your eyes peeled – it’s easy to miss!
