This gorge walking taster session introduces you to the rivers, waterfalls and rocky gorges of South Wales while building confidence in a safe and supportive environment. After meeting your instructor at Dinas Rock, you'll receive a full safety briefing and be fitted with the specialist equipment needed for the session. Once everyone is ready, the adventure begins as you make your way into the gorge, learning how to move confidently through flowing water and over natural obstacles.
Throughout the experience, you'll explore sections of river, scramble over rocks, wade through pools and navigate the varied terrain that makes gorge walking such a popular outdoor activity. Your instructor will provide guidance on safe movement techniques and help you tackle challenges at a pace that suits your confidence and ability.
As the session progresses, you'll gain a greater appreciation for the landscape around you while enjoying the excitement of travelling through areas that are inaccessible by normal footpaths. No technical knowledge or previous experience is required. Your instructor will guide you through every stage of the activity, helping you build confidence as you progress through the gorge.
Strong swimming ability is not usually required for this type of introductory session. Participants spend much of their time walking, scrambling and wading through sections of the gorge rather than swimming long distances.
All participants are provided with buoyancy aids and are supervised by qualified instructors throughout the activity. If you have concerns about your swimming ability, it's always worth discussing them before the session begins.
Unlike a traditional walk, gorge walking takes you directly into the natural environment rather than following established footpaths. You'll travel through rivers, over rocks and alongside waterfalls as part of the adventure.
