RAF Deenethorpe is a former Royal Air Force station near the village of Deenethorpe, Northamptonshire. Originally a satellite airfield for RAF Grafton Underwood, it became independent in 1943 and hosted the 401st Bombardment Group of the US Army Air Forces. The airfield played a key role in strategic bombing missions over Europe during World War II and earned a Distinguished Unit Citation for its service in 1944.
Today, the aerodrome provides a safe and open environment for microlight flights. The airfield features well-maintained runways and expansive skies, ideal for scenic flights and short training sessions. Ample parking and spectator areas ensure family and friends can watch flights safely, while the historic setting adds a unique element to the flying experience.
Participants must be at least 14 years old and weigh no more than 105kg. A reasonable level of fitness is recommended to handle the physical requirements of controlling a microlight. All first-time flyers are welcome, with no previous flying experience necessary.
Passengers should wear sensible lace-up shoes or trainers, and socks are recommended as ankles are exposed to airflow. Gloves can be brought for comfort, and all other flight equipment, including helmet, headset, and flying suit, will be provided.
Flights follow Civil Aviation Authority-approved safety standards, conducted by qualified instructors who provide full guidance throughout. Safety briefings, clear instructions, and on-board supervision ensure a secure and enjoyable flight for all participants.
Gift vouchers offer flexibility and convenience, valid for 12 months and suitable for any occasion. Spectators are welcome, allowing family and friends to enjoy the experience from the ground. The combination of historic airfield, professional instruction, and scenic views creates a unique and memorable flying opportunity.
