This six-day private expedition follows the main crest of the Făgăraș Mountains, Romania’s highest and most demanding mountain range. Designed for highly experienced hikers, the route links multiple 2,500 m peaks, exposed ridgelines, glacial lakes, and remote camps, requiring endurance, sure-footedness, and full commitment.
This expedition traverses the highest and most continuous alpine ridge in the Romanian Carpathians. The route includes multiple peaks above 2,500 m, narrow saddles, steep ascents and descents, and long exposed sections where weather and visibility play a major role.
You’ll carry your own tent, sleeping bag, and food throughout the trip. Fresh water is available from mountain springs, and meals are prepared on a stove carried by the guide. Routes may be adapted depending on weather and group condition.
The Făgăraș Mountains form the highest massif in Romania, stretching east–west across southern Transylvania. The range is defined by a long, continuous alpine crest, deep glacial valleys, and some of the country’s most serious hiking terrain.
Unlike lower mountain areas, this landscape is fully alpine for extended periods, with limited escape routes and rapidly changing weather, making it suitable only for experienced mountain hikers.
This expedition is only suitable for hikers with very strong fitness and proven multi-day mountain experience. You must be comfortable with long days at altitude, carrying a heavy pack, and moving confidently on exposed terrain.
Participants without appropriate equipment or experience will not be able to join the trip. The guide may modify or shorten stages if safety requires it.
Accommodation is wild camping throughout the expedition. You will carry your own tent and sleeping bag, and camps are set at high-altitude locations close to the ridge.
Facilities are minimal, with no showers or permanent infrastructure. This is a true expedition-style experience focused on self-sufficiency.
Compulsory equipment includes waterproof hiking boots, waterproof clothing, warm layers, gloves, sun protection, walking poles, tent, sleeping bag, and food supplies.
You must also carry personal items, camera, headtorch, and any medication. If you do not have the required equipment, the hike cannot go ahead.
This expedition follows a carefully planned high-ridge route shaped by years of experience in the Făgăraș Mountains. Decisions on pacing, route choice, and exposed sections are made conservatively, prioritising safety over rigid itineraries.
The focus is on responsible, low-impact mountain travel, respecting fragile alpine environments while offering access to Romania’s most demanding and rewarding hiking terrain.
