Charlie was great. He assessed the ability and confidence levels in the group very well, so that everyone in our mixed group left feeling they'd been challenged enough to feel they'd achieved something. I would really recommend Charlie.

This session takes coasteering to the next level with bigger jumps, more challenging swims, and powerful swell along the dramatic coastline near Loch Ewe. Set against the backdrop of World War 2 battlements and views towards Lewis, it offers an exciting experience for those with some previous coasteering or similar activity experience. The small group size ensures plenty of personal guidance during the three-hour adventure.
The session begins with a safety briefing and kit fitting at Gairloch Harbour before heading to the coastal entry point. The guide will outline the route and techniques needed to navigate the more demanding jumps and swims. Participants will encounter longer swims through swell, requiring confidence and endurance in open water, as well as higher and more challenging cliff jumps. The landscape features historic World War 2 battlements adding an intriguing backdrop to the adventure.
As the session progresses, there will be opportunities to test skills in jumping from ledges and swimming through rock arches, all under careful supervision. The group will work together to tackle each section, encouraging teamwork while allowing space for personal challenges. Breaks will be taken to admire views across the Minch to the northern tip of Lewis and to recharge energy for the next section.
Safety is a key focus throughout, with the instructor closely monitoring conditions and individual performance. The experience finishes with a final swim back to the harbour, followed by a gear return and chance to discuss the session. This trip is designed to push participants further than standard coasteering, building confidence and enjoyment in a beautiful coastal setting.
The meeting point at Gairloch Harbour is conveniently located on the west coast of Scotland, providing easy access to the rugged coastline and secluded bays where the activity takes place. The area is known for its varied marine life and amazing cliffs, giving the trip a diverse environment to explore.
Nearby, the World War 2 Loch Ewe battlements stand as reminders of the area's historical significance. Participants will have views looking westwards across the Minch towards the northern tip of the Isle of Lewis, adding a unique scenic element to the experience. The location combines natural beauty with a rich heritage setting, making it an engaging place for this advanced coasteering adventure.
Participants should have previous experience with coasteering or similar water-based activities like canyoning or surfing, as the swims and jumps are more demanding than standard trips. A reasonable level of fitness is required to safely complete longer swims and handle exposed coastal terrain.
Being comfortable in open water and confident with jumping from heights is essential. Anyone unsure about their ability should contact the provider in advance for advice and recommendations.

Yes, previous coasteering or similar experience such as canyoning or surfing is strongly advised. The swims and jumps on this session are more demanding than standard coasteering, requiring confidence in water and jumping from heights.
If you are new to coasteering, consider joining a standard introductory trip first to build the necessary skills before attempting this advanced session.

A detailed safety briefing is given at the start, including guidance on jumping techniques and how to navigate difficult sections. The guide will also adapt the route if conditions become unsafe.
It’s recommended to bring swimwear or board shorts, a towel, and a change of clothes for after the session. Suitable footwear is important; if you don’t have your own watersports trainers, they can be hired for a small fee.
You should also bring some water and a snack for energy, although there may be breaks during the session to rest and hydrate.
Participants must be at least 12 years old to take part, and younger participants should be confident swimmers with some prior coasteering experience. Parents or guardians should assess the child’s fitness and comfort level with swimming and jumping.
