Spend a full day on an electric city bike and cover Porto at your own pace. Collect from Praça da Batalha, get a short briefing on the motor and gears, then ride the granite hills without grinding to a halt on every climb. Helmet and bike are included. Return the same day to the same door.
This is a full-day self-guided hire, from collection in the morning until return the same day. You get a current electric city bike with pedal assistance, a helmet, and a briefing on the display, gears, and battery. The motor only helps when you pedal, so use more assistance on climbs and ease off on the flat if you want range for Ribeira, Gaia, and Foz.
You choose the route. Ask at collection for a suggested loop if you want local tips without a guide. A common day drops to the river, crosses to Gaia, follows the water to Foz, then climbs back through the gardens and the old town. Shorten that if you want more time in one neighbourhood. Food, drinks, and attraction tickets are not included.
Groups of up to ten can hire together and leave after the same briefing. It is not a guided tour. If you want commentary, someone watching the traffic, and a snack stop, book the three-hour guided e-bike tour instead.
Praça da Batalha sits above the river, a short walk from São Bento station and the cathedral. From the square you can drop to Ribeira, cross to Gaia, or climb toward Clérigos and Crystal Palace Gardens. Cobbles, tram tracks, and steep lanes are part of the city, so take the first descent steadily.
Start and finish at Praça da Batalha 120, next to São João National Theatre. Use that door, not the shop on Rua das Flores, unless staff tell you otherwise on the day. There is no hotel pickup. If you are staying in Gaia, allow time to cross the river.
You must be able to ride a bicycle in traffic and be at least 1.60 m (5 ft 3 in) tall so you can stand over the frame and reach the brakes. Closed shoes are required. There is no published minimum age, but anyone under 18 who meets the height still needs an adult with them.
Do not hire if you are pregnant, above the bike weight limit, or have a condition that makes cycling unsafe. Bring photo ID and each rider's height at checkout.
The bikes are set up for Porto's hills, with quiet motors and enough battery for a full day. Staff brief you on the controls before you leave, so you are not guessing at the display on a busy square.
You stay in control of the route. Pause at Gaia, Foz, or the gardens as you like, then bring the bike back to the same door. Groups of up to ten can hire together.
Collect and return at Praça da Batalha 120, 4000-101 Porto, next to São João National Theatre. São Bento railway station is a few minutes on foot. Metro, buses, and taxis all serve the square.
There is no hotel pickup for hire. If you are staying in Gaia, allow time to cross the river. Use the door on Praça da Batalha, not the shop on Rua das Flores, unless staff tell you otherwise on the day.
If you can ride an ordinary bicycle, you can ride an e-bike. The motor only helps when you pedal, so you stay in control of speed and balance. Assistance levels let you add more help on hills and ease off on the flat.
Porto is steep, and that is exactly why an e-bike helps. You still need to look out for tram tracks, wet cobbles, and traffic in the old town. If you have not cycled for years, take the first ten minutes in a quiet street near the shop before you drop toward the river.
The practical limit is height, not a published minimum age. You need to be at least 1.60 m (5 ft 3 in) tall so you can stand over the bike and reach the brakes. That is a safety rule for this fleet, not a suggestion.
Younger riders who meet the height can hire if an adult is with them and can supervise on the road. Infants cannot ride as passengers. If you are unsure about height, measure before you book and put the figure in the checkout question.
Hire is a full day, from collection in the morning until return the same day. Live start times and the latest return time sit on the booking calendar.
Plan to be back at Praça da Batalha with enough time to check the bike in. If you want a shorter, guided loop with a snack stop, book the three-hour guided e-bike tour instead of hire.
The e-bike, helmet, and a short briefing on the motor and gears are included. Battery range on a full charge is enough for a full day around Porto and Gaia if you use assistance sensibly.
You look after the bike while it is out. Locks, lights, and extra kit are confirmed at collection. Personal insurance, food, and museum or cellar tickets are not included. Transport to the shop is also not included.
Meet at Praça da Batalha 120, 4000-101 Porto, beside São João National Theatre. São Bento station is a short walk, with metro and local buses close by. There is no hotel pickup on hire.
Allow extra time if you are coming from Gaia or the airport. The square is easy to miss on a first visit, so drop a pin for Praça da Batalha 120 before you set off. Collection is at the shop, not at Rua das Flores.
Light rain is common in Porto and cobbles get slippery. Hire still runs in drizzle, but you should slow down on descents and avoid painted road markings. If weather makes riding unsafe, staff will advise you at collection or through the booking chat.
Bring a light waterproof and an extra layer. The Atlantic wind at Foz is cooler than the Ribeira. There is no indoor riding option, so if you prefer not to cycle in rain, check the forecast the evening before.
Porto's hills are the reason people hire e-bikes. Assistance takes the sting out of climbs toward Clérigos, Boavista, and Crystal Palace Gardens. You still pedal, so a basic level of fitness helps, especially if you plan a long loop to Foz and Matosinhos.
If you have a heart, balance, or joint condition that makes cycling unwise, do not hire. Pregnant riders and anyone over the bike weight limit should not take a bike out. Ask in chat before booking if you are unsure.
Wear closed shoes with a decent sole, comfortable clothes you can move in, and sun protection. A small backpack is useful for water and a layer. Avoid loose scarves that can catch in a wheel.
Bring a refillable water bottle, photo ID, and your booking confirmation. You will be asked for each rider's height at checkout. Sunglasses help on the river, where glare off the Douro is strong at midday.
Hire is self-guided, so you choose the pace and the stops. A common loop from the square runs to the river, across to Gaia, along to Foz, and back through the old town. You can shorten that if you want more time in one neighbourhood.
Ask for a suggested route at collection if you want local tips without a guide. For commentary, a snack stop, and someone else watching the traffic, book the guided tour instead.
Yes. There is no minimum number, and you can take up to ten bikes on the same booking. Everyone still needs to meet the 1.60 m height rule and be able to ride in city traffic.
Arrive together so the briefing covers the whole group at once. You then ride at your own pace. You do not have to stay in a convoy, but you return every bike to Praça da Batalha 120 before closing.
