You'll take a Polaris buggy out from Diabat, through forest and onto the beaches and dunes south of Essaouira. Choose a 2-seater for a pair or the 4-seater when a family wants to stay together, and take 1, 2 or 3 hours. The driver must be 18 and hold a licence; younger guests ride as passengers from about 5.
Before you leave the yard, the guide covers the buggy controls, convoy spacing and the licence check. Helmets go on every seat. A few minutes of practice settle a new driver, then you move into the forest toward the beaches and dunes.
One hour takes in winding forest paths, the first dunes and the Dar Sultan ruins. Two hours continue through Diabat toward Cap Sim, along the wild beach and over bigger dunes, with the freshwater spring on the shore at low tide and the fishermen's huts further on.
Three hours add Cap Sim and Tagenza, where the sand opens out. The return still comes through the forest. You are not mixed with another party, so the guide can match the pace to your driver rather than to a larger group.
The buggies leave from a yard a few kilometres from Essaouira, where the machines are parked, checked and assigned. The tracks sit on the Atlantic strip south of town, between forest, shoreline and open sand.
Hotel collection covers Essaouira and the city centre. Exact lines change with tide and wind. There is one 4-seater in the fleet, so it is worth asking for it as soon as your dates are firm.
The driver needs to be 18 or over and hold a valid driving licence. Passengers from about 5 may sit in the extra seats. No previous buggy time is required, but the driver should be ready for sand and uneven tracks under guidance.
This outing is not suitable in pregnancy or if you have a back problem. Wear closed shoes. Tell us who will drive, and bring the licence to the yard. The usual upper age on these outings is 75.
We keep each buggy outing to one party and one guide, which is the safer way to introduce a new driver to sand after a real briefing. Helmets come from the yard, and the same crew who check the licence stay out in front until you are back.
Hotel pickup in Essaouira is part of the outing, and the yard speaks French, English and Arabic, so the controls lesson can stay clear. The 4-seater exists for families who do not want to split across two machines.
The driver shows a licence at the yard, everyone takes a helmet, and the guide walks through the controls, the spacing they want on the sand, and the route for the hours you have chosen. A short practice in the yard settles a new driver before the forest path.
The 1-hour ride uses winding forest tracks toward the beaches and dunes, with a look at the Dar Sultan ruins on the way. This nearby loop is also the opening of the longer rides, so everyone gets the same start on the sand.
Two- and three-hour rides continue to Cap Sim, the wild beach and the dunes, with the freshwater spring at low tide and the fishermen's huts along the shore. The guide can stop for photos when the view is good.
The 3-hour ride pushes on to Tagenza, where the sand opens out and there is more time on the slopes. The return uses forest tracks back to the yard, then hotel drop-off in Essaouira once kit is handed back.
Anyone taking the wheel of a 2-seater or 4-seater must be at least 18 and hold a valid driving licence. The team check that at the Diabat yard before the briefing ends. Without it, that person rides as a passenger only.
Passengers from about 5 years old can sit in the extra seats. Decide who will drive before pickup so the licence check is quick. One machine covers everyone sitting in it.
A 2-seater takes one driver, or a driver and one passenger. The 4-seater takes a driver plus two or three passengers, which is the option for a family that wants to stay in one machine.
There is one 4-seater in the fleet, so ask for that option early if you need it. Two-seaters are the usual machines for pairs. Tell the yard how many people will sit in each buggy so they assign the right one.
One hour covers forest tracks, the first beaches and dunes, and the Dar Sultan ruins after the briefing. Two hours continue through Diabat toward Cap Sim, the wild beach, the freshwater spring at low tide and the fishermen's huts.
Three hours add Cap Sim and Tagenza, where the dunes open out. Your guide stays with your party only, so the extra time is spent riding, not waiting for another group.
Children from about 5 can ride as passengers. They do not drive. The person at the wheel still needs to be 18 with a licence, including on the 4-seater when the rest of the seats are children.
The outing is not suitable in pregnancy or if you have a back problem. Mention ages when you get in touch. Helmets are required for every seat, and the yard supplies them before you leave.
We'll write back once a buggy and a guide are free for your time. Have a licence photo ready if they ask, and send the hotel name for pickup.
If the 4-seater is already taken, we may offer two-seaters instead for the same hours. Wait for our confirmation before you treat the time as booked.
Closed shoes are required. Trousers or a long layer help on sand and scrub. Helmets come from the yard. Shorts and flip-flops are a poor match for an open machine on these tracks.
Bring a buff if you want dust off your face, and sun protection. A dry bag keeps phones off the floor of the buggy. Expect sand on clothes even on a 1-hour ride.
Hotel pickup in Essaouira or near the city centre is included, then drop-off after you return to Diabat. Give the hotel name when you get in touch. The yard is where you brief and show the licence.
If you are staying outside town, you will need to reach Diabat yourselves. Be ready in the window they send, so the briefing can start on time.
Everyday wind on this coast is normal and usually fine. Wet sand or a storm can change the beach line or delay the start. We'll get in touch if we need to move the ride.
Keep the rest of the morning or afternoon loose. Closed shoes still matter when the sand is damp. The 3-hour ride needs a longer clear window than the 1-hour loop.
You leave with your own guide. The team do not mix buggy parties, so the pace can match a new driver after the yard briefing. You can stop for photos when it suits you.
Tell us every buggy you need. A pair in a 2-seater and a family in the 4-seater can run as one party with the same guide if you say so when you get in touch.
Send the hotel name, who will drive, and whether you need the 2-seater or the 4-seater. Confirm that the driver is 18 and holds a licence. Wear closed shoes on the day.
Wait for our confirmation before you treat the time as booked. If plans change, let us know as soon as you can so the machine and guide can move to another time.
