Leave the busy streets of Venice behind and discover the elegant countryside of the Brenta Riviera by bike. Following the historic route once travelled by Venetian nobility, this guided cycling experience combines beautiful riverside scenery, Renaissance architecture and fascinating local history at a relaxed pace.
The experience begins at Zattere in Venice before crossing by public water bus to Fusina on the mainland. From there, the route follows the Brenta Riviera, one of northern Italy's most historically significant waterways, linking Venice with Padua through a landscape shaped by centuries of commerce, agriculture and noble residences.
Cycling takes place on a combination of quiet roads and dedicated cycle paths with mostly flat terrain. Along the way you'll pass canals, riverside villages, elegant villas, gardens and open countryside before finishing in Dolo, where convenient public transport connections make returning to Venice straightforward.
This tour is suitable for anyone with a reasonable level of fitness who is comfortable riding a bicycle for several hours. The route is mostly flat and follows quiet roads, making it appropriate for recreational cyclists as well as more experienced riders.
Children's bikes are available with advance notice. Infant seats are not available, and the experience is not wheelchair accessible. If you have sensory, cognitive or mobility requirements, please get in touch before booking so suitable arrangements can be explored wherever possible.
Led by a licensed Venetian guide with extensive knowledge of the city's history, art and architecture, this experience goes beyond simply visiting famous landmarks. Along the route you'll gain insight into the lives of the Venetian nobility, the genius of Palladian architecture and the historical importance of the Brenta River, all brought to life through engaging storytelling.
Small group sizes create a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of opportunities to ask questions and enjoy the surroundings at a comfortable pace. Flexible bike rental options, optional villa entry and an easy return to Venice make this an excellent choice for anyone looking to experience a quieter and lesser-known side of the Venetian region.
Meet your licensed guide on the historic Zattere waterfront, once the arrival point for timber transported into Venice from the mainland. Overlooking the Giudecca Canal, this picturesque promenade provides the perfect introduction to the history of the Brenta waterway and its importance to the Venetian Republic.
After a short introduction to the day's route, you'll board the public water bus towards Fusina.
The crossing to Fusina offers a different perspective of Venice before reaching the mainland. Historically, this was where elegant river barges known as burchielli began transporting wealthy Venetian families to their countryside residences during the summer months.
Upon arrival, you'll collect your bike (rented separately) before beginning the cycling route.
The ride follows quiet country roads and dedicated cycle paths running alongside the Brenta River. The largely flat route makes for enjoyable cycling while your guide shares stories of the river's commercial importance and explains how the surrounding landscape was transformed into one of Italy's most prestigious residential areas.
With gardens, canals, elegant bridges and historic estates lining the route, there are frequent opportunities to stop for photographs and hear the stories behind each location.
This tour is available in English, Italian, German, and Spanish, both as a shared small-group tour and as a private tour.
The standard meeting point is Zattere (Dorsoduro, Venice), near the vaporetto stop. If you’re staying outside Venice, let me know, and we’ll arrange a suitable meeting point.
No, visiting all the villas is impossible in a single tour. This is a private tour, so we’ll decide in advance which villas to visit, based on the opening hours and your interests.
