After kit fitting at our Los Belones school, we'll cover boat safety and snorkel technique before walking to the harbour. You board a local craft and head to a site chosen for the day's conditions, with views of the lighthouse and coastline on the way out.
In the water your guide uses fauna slates to help you spot species among rocks and seagrass while keeping pace relaxed and surface rests available whenever needed. After the swim we return to harbour, rinse kit at the school and debrief with tips for exploring more of the reserve on future visits.
From the harbour at Cabo de Palos you reach the marine reserve where the Mar Menor meets the open Mediterranean. Posidonia meadows, rocky reefs and seasonal visitors like sunfish reward snorkellers when water clarity allows.
Los Belones and the harbour village offer cafes and coastal walks within minutes of our school. Murcia and Cartagena are within easy reach for a full day combining sea time and sightseeing along this stretch of coast.
You should be comfortable swimming with fins in open water away from the shore. No certification is required, and flotation vests are provided for extra confidence at the surface throughout the snorkel stop.
Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian present on the day. Tell your guide about any water confidence concerns at the briefing so we can adjust the route or your position in the group before leaving the mooring.
We run small groups with maintained kit and PADI staff who know Cabo de Palos conditions year round. Boat access opens sites that shore entries cannot reach on the same day, often with better visibility and quieter water.
Marine ID slates and patient in-water coaching help beginners spot and name what they see. Every trip begins with a clear safety talk on deck and in the water so you feel prepared before your head goes under.
Kit is checked at the school before you walk to the boat. The skipper covers deck safety while your guide explains how the snorkel stop will run.

By boat we reach quieter sites away from busy beaches, often with better visibility and more active fish around reef and posidonia habitat. You still get the same careful briefing and in-water support from a PADI professional throughout the session.
The short boat ride is part of the experience, with views of the Cabo de Palos headland and open Mediterranean before you slip into the water at a mooring chosen for the day's conditions.
Mask, snorkel, fins, a flotation vest and waterproof marine fauna identification slates are all provided and fitted at the school before we walk to the harbour. Kit is rinsed and maintained between trips.
Bring swimwear, a towel, sun cream and warm layers for the boat ride back. Seasickness tablets are worth packing if you are prone to motion on small craft in open water.
All boat snorkel trips start at our dive school at c/ Isaac Peral, 28, Los Belones, Murcia 30385. Kit is prepared there before we walk to the harbour and board the boat together as a group.
Arrive a few minutes early so sizes can be checked and the safety briefing is not rushed. Parking is available in Los Belones near the school on most days of the week.
You can book from one person; we keep groups to six so the guide can watch everyone properly on deck and in the water. An extra instructor joins when ratios require it on busier dates.
If you are travelling as a smaller party, get in touch before your visit. We may be able to add you to another group on the same date when spaces allow.
Children from age 10 can join when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Flotation vests and close supervision apply throughout the boat trip and snorkel stop.
Mention swimming confidence when you arrive so we can advise on buoyancy aids and route choice to help a nervous child feel secure in open water away from the beach.
Boat trips depend on calm enough sea state, wind and visibility for a safe departure and enjoyable snorkel. If conditions are unsuitable, we'll contact you to reschedule rather than force a trip that feels unsafe.
Murcia enjoys many settled days, but winter swell or strong wind can affect harbour departures. We'll contact you as early as possible when a change is needed so you can rearrange travel plans.
The full outing lasts around three and a half hours including briefing, boat transfer, snorkel time and kit return at the school. Time in the water is typically between 45 and 90 minutes depending on conditions, temperature and group pace.
There is no rush to cover distance. Surface rests on the boat or at the mooring are normal whenever someone needs to clear a mask, warm up or simply catch their breath.

Transport to the meeting point at our Los Belones school is not included. Guests travel independently by car or taxi from accommodation in Cabo de Palos, La Manga, Cartagena, Murcia or nearby resorts.
Harbour transfer and boat transport to the snorkel site are arranged as part of the activity once you arrive at the school. Ask us when you confirm your date if you need help planning routes or parking.
Guides carry waterproof slates showing common Mediterranean fish, octopus, cuttlefish and invertebrates found on local reefs and posidonia beds. You can match what you see in real time rather than guessing species names from memory alone.
Sightings vary by season and conditions, so the slates help you learn even when wildlife is shy on a particular day. Many guests enjoy identifying species long after the trip has finished.
