Ride through Phuket’s countryside and hillside trails on a guided ATV journey towards one of the island’s most recognised viewpoints. This three-hour off-road experience combines village tracks, plantation routes, and elevated sea views from Big Buddha Hill, offering a balanced mix of riding and sightseeing.
Your experience begins at the ATV camp with a safety briefing and introduction to the vehicle. Instructors demonstrate throttle control, braking, steering, and how to position your body on inclines and uneven ground. Whether you choose a 200cc or a more powerful 600cc vehicle, guidance is provided to match your confidence level.
Once on the trail, you’ll ride through local villages, rubber plantations, and small farming areas, giving a more rural perspective of Phuket beyond the beaches. The terrain includes dirt tracks, compact earth paths, and gradual uphill sections as you make your way towards Big Buddha Hill. The route is structured to be engaging without being extreme, making it suitable for beginners who want moderate off-road riding.
At the designated viewpoint near Big Buddha, you’ll stop to take in wide sea views across southern Phuket. While access inside the temple is currently restricted, the viewpoint itself offers excellent photo opportunities and space to rest before riding back down through forested tracks to the camp.
The ATV camp is located near Big Buddha Hill in southern Phuket. This area combines hillside terrain with open viewpoints, making it ideal for off-road riding with scenic reward stops. The surrounding countryside includes plantations and quiet rural roads not typically seen on standard tours.
Complimentary pick-up is available from selected locations, with additional charges for certain areas such as Kamala, Laguna, Surin, Bangtao, Cape Yamu, Paklok, Naiyang, Airport area, Naithon, Layan Beach, Maikhao, Koh Kaew, Kathu, Siray Bay, and Laem Hin. Exact pick-up timing is confirmed after booking.
This activity is not suitable for pregnant travellers or individuals with back or heart conditions due to vibration and uneven terrain. Participants must be able to sit securely and control the vehicle safely. Infants are not permitted to sit on laps, and infant seats are unavailable.
Moderate physical ability is required, particularly arm strength and balance for steering on uneven surfaces. Closed-toe footwear is essential. Passenger pricing applies for children riding as passengers rather than drivers.
Operating in Phuket since 2018, this team brings strong local knowledge and hands-on guiding experience. Routes are selected to combine genuine countryside riding with one of Phuket’s most recognisable viewpoints, rather than simply circling a closed track.
With clear safety briefings, well-maintained vehicles, and structured pacing, the focus is on making off-road riding accessible while still engaging. The experience is designed to feel organised, safe, and connected to the landscape rather than rushed or overcrowded.
No previous experience is required. Before departure, instructors provide a detailed safety briefing covering acceleration, braking, steering control, and safe riding techniques for uphill and downhill sections. You will have time to familiarise yourself with the vehicle before entering the main trail.
The route is designed for moderate riders, meaning beginners can participate comfortably while still experiencing varied terrain. Guides monitor the group pace to ensure safety throughout.
Engine sizes range from 200cc to 600cc, depending on availability and booking option. A 200cc vehicle is generally suitable for beginners or lighter riders, offering manageable power and steady handling.
Larger engines such as 400cc or 600cc provide stronger acceleration and improved performance on steeper inclines. If unsure, staff can recommend a suitable option on arrival.
Currently, the tour includes a stop at the designated viewpoint near Big Buddha Hill but does not enter the temple grounds. This still allows for panoramic sea views and photo opportunities.
The 30-minute ATV option excludes the Big Buddha viewpoint entirely and remains closer to the base trails. Longer ride options include the hill ascent.
Children can join as passengers under the child price category, provided they are physically able to sit securely and follow safety instructions. Infants are not permitted to sit on laps.
Parents should consider that the ride involves vibration and uneven terrain. Guides will assess seating arrangements to ensure safety before departure.
The route includes dirt tracks, plantation paths, small rural roads, and gradual hillside climbs. Surfaces vary between compact soil, gravel, and occasional muddy sections during rainy periods.
The uphill section towards Big Buddha Hill includes moderate inclines but no extreme technical features. The descent is controlled and guided.
Round-trip transfers are included from selected Phuket areas. After booking, you will receive confirmation of your exact pick-up time.
Additional fees apply for outer zones including Kamala, Laguna, Surin, Bangtao, Cape Yamu, Paklok, Naiyang, Airport area, Naithon, Layan Beach, Maikhao, Koh Kaew, Kathu, Siray Bay, and Laem Hin.
Closed-toe shoes are mandatory for safety. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for dust and outdoor riding. Long sleeves and trousers can provide additional protection from sun and light debris.
During rainy season, a raincoat is provided. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended due to open hillside exposure.
This is rated as moderate difficulty. Riders use their arms and core to maintain balance and control the vehicle on uneven ground. However, it does not require high endurance levels.
It is not suitable for individuals with back problems, heart conditions, or for pregnant travellers due to terrain vibration.
Light rain does not normally stop the activity, and raincoats are provided during the rainy season. In fact, damp ground can enhance grip and make the trail more engaging.
In the event of severe weather conditions, the operator may adjust timing or reschedule to ensure safety.
