Starting out in the waves is easier than you might think with the right guidance and conditions. These beginner surf lessons are designed to give you a solid foundation, combining beach-based learning with time in the water. With small group sizes and supportive coaching, you’ll build confidence from the very first session.
Your session begins with a relaxed introduction on the beach, where your instructor will walk you through the fundamentals of surfing. This includes understanding how waves work, how to stay safe in the water, and how to handle your board correctly. You’ll practise key movements on the sand first, such as positioning and the pop-up technique, so you feel prepared before entering the sea.
Once in the water, the focus shifts to putting those basics into practice. With your instructor close by, you’ll work on paddling, positioning yourself for waves, and catching your first rides. The small group size means you’ll receive regular feedback and encouragement, helping you improve quickly without feeling overwhelmed.
As the lesson progresses, you’ll start linking everything together, building rhythm and confidence with each attempt. By the end of the session, most beginners are able to stand up and ride small waves, leaving with a clear understanding of how to continue improving.
Lessons take place around Corralejo in the north of Fuerteventura, an area known for its consistent surf and variety of beginner-friendly beaches. The coastline offers a mix of sandy bays and gentle wave conditions, making it an ideal setting for those new to surfing. Conditions are carefully selected each day to match the group’s ability, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience.
Being based just outside the main town allows quick access to multiple surf spots without long travel times. This flexibility means you’ll often be taken to the most suitable beach on the day, depending on wind and wave conditions, giving you the best possible introduction to surfing.
No previous surfing experience is required to join this session, making it suitable for complete beginners. A reasonable level of general fitness and comfort in the water is recommended, as you’ll be spending time paddling and moving in the sea.
Participants should be confident swimmers and able to follow basic safety instructions provided by the instructor. A willingness to try something new and get involved from the start will help you get the most out of the session.
Drawing on years of hands-on experience across multiple watersports disciplines, the team brings a practical and supportive approach to teaching beginners. Their background includes deep involvement in the evolution of modern board sports, which translates into clear, effective coaching that focuses on real progress from the first session.
Equally important is the quality of the equipment and the attention given to each guest. With small group sizes and carefully selected surf spots, every lesson is adapted to suit the conditions and the individuals taking part. This combination of local knowledge, modern gear, and personal guidance creates an environment where beginners can learn quickly and feel comfortable in the water.
Not at all, this session is specifically designed for complete beginners. Everything is taught from the ground up, starting with theory on the beach before moving into the water, so you won’t be expected to know anything in advance.
Even if you’ve never tried a board sport before, the structure of the lesson makes it easy to follow. The instructor will guide you step by step, ensuring you feel comfortable before progressing to the next stage.
Most participants manage to stand up at least once during their first session, especially with the guidance provided throughout the lesson. The focus is on building the right technique early, which makes standing up more achievable.
That said, progress varies from person to person. The main goal is to leave with a strong foundation so you can continue improving in future sessions.
Surfing does require some effort, particularly when paddling, but the lesson is paced to suit beginners. Breaks are built in naturally, and instructors keep an eye on energy levels throughout.
You don’t need to be highly athletic, but a basic level of fitness and comfort in the water will help you get more out of the experience.
You’ll need to bring swimwear, a towel, and possibly sunscreen depending on the conditions. Everything else, including your board and wetsuit, is provided for you.
It’s also a good idea to bring water to stay hydrated, especially during warmer days when you’ll be active for several hours.
Group sizes are kept small, with a maximum of 6–8 students per instructor. This allows for more personalised feedback and support throughout the session.
Smaller groups also mean more opportunities to practise and receive guidance, helping you improve faster compared to larger, less focused sessions.
Conditions are monitored closely, and locations may be adjusted to ensure the best possible experience. The flexibility to choose different beaches means sessions can still go ahead safely in most cases.
If conditions are unsuitable, sessions may be rescheduled to maintain safety and quality, ensuring you still get a proper introduction to surfing.
Lesson schedules are planned around daily conditions, so times may vary slightly. This approach ensures you’re surfing at the best possible time of day for wave quality and safety.
You’ll be informed of your session time in advance, but some flexibility is helpful to make the most of the conditions on the day.
