Whether you’re just starting out or helping the kids get their first taste of surfing, our beginner and kids board hire makes it easy to hit the waves in Croyde. Choose from a range of softboards suited to all ages, with flexible hire durations from a few hours to a full week.
Softboards – 7ft / 8ft / 9ft
These classic soft-top boards are ideal for beginners. Their wide shape offers plenty of stability for building confidence in the surf. Whether you’re an adult new to surfing or looking for something steady for older kids, the softboards are a great starting point. The different sizes allow you to pick what suits your size and comfort level.
Drone Ranger – 5'2 / 6'0
These smaller boards are aimed at younger or lighter surfers who still want that beginner-friendly feel. They’re soft-topped like the bigger boards but designed for smaller riders. Easy to carry and paddle, they’re a solid choice for kids looking to get into the water with gear that feels manageable.
Boards are available for short sessions or extended hire so you can build in surf time across your stay in Croyde.
You’ll collect your gear from Down End Car Park, located on the south side of Croyde Bay at Downend Point. It’s an easy launch point for the beach, with grass to set up on, space to relax and unbeatable views across the bay.
The spot is also home to The Beach Cafe, known for its seriously good food — whether you’re after a full post-surf feast or a snack between sessions. The area’s slightly elevated position offers some shelter from southerly winds and a great spot to wind down after a day in the sea.
No surfing experience is required to hire any of the boards. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult when collecting and using the equipment. All participants should be comfortable in the sea. Wetsuits are not included but are available to hire locally if needed.
The crew behind this Croyde hire set-up are long-time locals who know the area inside out. Whether you meet Simon — a former pro who still gets out there when the waves are good — or Tom and Kim who’ve helped countless visitors get into surfing, you’ll be in friendly, experienced hands.
This isn’t a big, faceless operation. It’s run by people who genuinely love the sea and enjoy sharing it with others. The team keep things relaxed but professional, and the location couldn’t be better for making the most of your surf time without any hassle.
