West Bay puts reef and sand in one island day: a short boat run over coral with mask, snorkel and fins, then chairs, showers and time to sit once you are back. Local drivers collect you from the cruise gates, the airport or your hotel and talk you along the west coast on the way. Stay on the boat if swimming is not for you; the beach still has shallow water close to shore.
After pickup, the drive follows the west coast with local commentary before you reach West Bay. A short boat ride takes you to the reef for a one-hour snorkel with mask, snorkel and fins provided. Anyone who would rather stay dry can remain on the boat and watch from the surface.
Back on the sand, washrooms, showers and beach chairs are waiting, with time left to swim, sit in the sun, or browse the beach store. Bring a towel and sun lotion, or buy them on site if you left them on the ship.
West Bay sits on the western shore of Roatan, with pale sand and shallow turquoise water that suits both snorkellers and people who simply want a beach day. The boat for the reef session leaves from the beach club, where chairs, washrooms and a small shop sit just behind the shoreline.
Pickup is arranged at two cruise gates as well as hotels and the airport. At the Port of Roatan, meet at city exit gate one. At Mahogany Bay, leave via the taxi rank, turn left, walk up and over the hill wall, pass the large gate, then walk down the hill. Staff wait with a clearly marked pickup sign at both gates.
No snorkel experience is required. Guides brief you before the boat leaves, and kit is fitted on the day. Comfort in the water helps if you plan to snorkel, but you can stay on the boat if swimming is not for you.
Children from five years old are welcome. Ages five to eight are charged at half the adult rate. Closed-toe shoes are not needed for the beach, though water shoes can help on the boat steps.

Yes. Mask, snorkel and fins are included in the package price for the one-hour reef session. You do not need to bring your own kit unless you prefer a familiar mask.
If you have prescription lenses or a mask you already trust, you are welcome to use it. Fins and tubes are still available from the team if you only want to bring the mask.
No. The boat ride to the reef is part of the outing, and you can stay on board if you are not comfortable in the water. The briefing still covers how the session works so you know what the rest of the group is doing.
West Bay itself is shallow near the sand, so many guests who skip the reef still paddle close to shore later. Tell the guide before you leave the beach if you plan to stay on the boat.
The reef outing is about one hour, including the short boat ride from West Bay. Time in the water depends on conditions and how the group moves along the reef.
The rest of the 6.5-hour day is the island transfer and unhurried beach time. You are not rushed off the sand as soon as the boat returns.
The beach club has washrooms, showers and chairs. A small store sells towels and sun lotion if you left yours on the ship. A restaurant sits on site if you want to buy food or drinks, which are not part of the package.
Optional water sports at the club are paid separately and are not part of this outing. The included time is for the reef session, the chairs, and the facilities behind the sand.
Pack swimwear, a towel, sun lotion, and a little cash for the beach store or a drink. A light cover-up is useful in the vehicle on the way to West Bay.
Leave valuables you do not need on the ship or in the hotel safe. The beach has a shop if you forget the basics, but it is simpler to bring your own towel and lotion.
