



This advanced Canoeing River Expedition Training Weekend is designed for paddlers looking to elevate their skills for challenging river expeditions. Taking place on one of the rivers in Cumbria or Southern Scotland, this weekend focuses on developing technical paddling techniques, understanding paddle-canoe-water interactions, and planning for multi-day river expeditions. Guided by expert coach Stuart, with over 20 years of experience leading advanced water expeditions, this course is an excellent opportunity to build confidence and competence in moving water.
The training will take place on one of the rivers in Cumbria or Southern Scotland, with the final venue determined closer to the date based on water levels and participant capabilities. These regions provide the ideal environment for practising advanced skills on grade 2 and 3 waters.
Accommodation is optional and will be in a bunkhouse near the river location. Participants may arrange their own lodging if preferred. Meals and bunkhouse costs are not included in the course fee.

Yes, this course is for advanced paddlers with prior experience on grade 2 rivers. If you’re unsure of your suitability, contact us to discuss your skills or consider our introductory canoe training courses.
You’ll need a moderate level of fitness. The course involves paddling for several hours each day, navigating moving water, and carrying equipment over short distances.
The course is capped at 6 participants to ensure personalised coaching and a high-quality learning experience.
The course will be held on a river in Cumbria or Southern Scotland, depending on conditions and participant skill levels. The final location will be confirmed closer to the date.
Safety is our top priority. If conditions are unsafe, the course location or schedule may be adjusted to ensure participants can still learn and practice in appropriate conditions.

Canoes and paddling equipment can be hired for £50 per boat. You’re welcome to bring your own canoe, but please inform us in advance to ensure it meets safety standards.

Participants are responsible for their own meals. Bring easy-to-prepare food and snacks suitable for active days on the river. The bunkhouse (if used) may have kitchen facilities, but check with us closer to the date for specifics.

This course is focused on open canoes. If you’re an experienced kayaker transitioning to canoes, it can still be a great fit, but the techniques and focus will be specific to canoeing.
