After vehicle orientation you head north on mixed pavement and dirt toward Ba Be for a lake boat day and rugged loops to remote hamlets. Midweek routes cross streams and market towns toward Cao Bang and the Ban Gioc border falls.
The final days drop to Lang Son off road trails then the coast for a structured cruise with cave and island stops before returning jeeps and transferring to Hanoi. Drivers must hold a valid licence accepted for self drive arrangements.
We run self-drive convoys in the north with leaders who know river crossings, seasonal mud, and village courtesy on tracks buses never take. Our team briefs you properly in Hanoi, handles fuel, permits, and lodge timing, and stays with the group so remote sections feel adventurous rather than uncertain.
We pair rugged driving with waterfall days and a structured bay cruise so the week still feels balanced for drivers and passengers. You travel with operators who have invested years in northeast jeep routes and want your convoy to feel professional, sociable, and true to off-the-beaten-track Vietnam.
You need confidence driving manual or automatic 4x4 vehicles on unpaved surfaces and steep grades. A valid driving licence is required and you must accept the operator waiver at briefing.
Passengers may join without driving if spaces allow. Walking breaks at caves and villages break up long cockpit hours and stretch legs on uneven ground.
Day one starts at the Hanoi garage or hotel briefing point confirmed before departure. Allow a full day for transfer and handover.
Final drop in Hanoi comes after you leave the cruise at the marina around midday. Your driver confirms timing on the morning of day eight so you reach your hotel with room to rest before onward travel.

About the centre
Hanoi
We are a Hanoi-based team specialising in small-group adventure travel across Vietnam, from jungle treks and national parks to cycling routes, off-road journeys, and multi-day expeditions that reach less-visited corners of the north and beyond. Our guides grew up in these landscapes and work in the field day to day, so you get practical support, local insight, and itineraries built around real trail conditions rather than brochure highlights.
Whether you join a fixed-departure tour or tailor a longer route, we focus on steady pacing, clear communication before you travel, and hands-on help with logistics such as hotel pickup in the Old Quarter, meal preferences, and passport details when arrangements require them. You travel with people who know the terrain and care that each day feels organised, welcoming, and true to the adventure you came for.
