Prepare for an 8-day winter expedition in the heart of the Kaçkar Mountains, combining backcountry skiing, catskiing, and snowmobiling. This trip offers challenging terrain, remote powder runs, and expert guidance, along with cultural experiences in historic Erzurum. Guests stay in high-altitude resorts and enjoy a mix of adrenaline, skill-building, and Turkish hospitality throughout the journey.
Your adventure begins with arrival at Trabzon Airport and transfer to Flora Handüzü Resort, perched at 1800 m on the Handüzü Plateau. Over six nights, you will explore pristine backcountry terrain via guided freeride skiing and snowmobile-assisted access. Each day includes 4–6 descents through forested areas, open bowls, and untouched powder zones, with maximum vertical drops of up to 700 m. Experienced guides provide instruction, ensure safety, and select optimal lines for varying skill levels.
Mid-week includes optional catskiing sessions, allowing access to exclusive zones unreachable by regular lifts, giving guests a unique experience of untouched snow. Evenings offer opportunities to relax, enjoy local cuisine, and socialise with fellow adventurers. The final day involves a transfer to Erzurum, where guests explore the city’s rich history and cultural sites before departing from Erzurum Airport.
Throughout the tour, all land transfers, snowmobile rentals, and guided activities are included. Flexible itineraries respond to weather and snow conditions, with safety as the top priority. Guests are expected to follow instructions carefully and maintain awareness of off-piste risks.
The Kaçkar Mountains, part of the Turkish Alps, offer vast wilderness with high-altitude slopes reaching 3100 m. Remote valleys, open bowls, and forested terrain provide unmatched backcountry skiing opportunities. Snow conditions are typically excellent from February to March, ideal for powder runs, catskiing, and snowmobile-assisted access.
Erzurum, a historic city at the crossroads of ancient civilizations, provides a cultural contrast to the alpine adventure. Guests experience its architecture, local cuisine, and unique atmosphere after several days in the high mountains, creating a balanced combination of outdoor adventure and cultural enrichment.
The Flora Handüzü Resort & Bungalow serves as your base for six nights, offering high-altitude comfort, authentic hospitality, and easy access to backcountry terrain. Rooms provide cozy, practical accommodations with half-board service, including daily breakfast and dinner, plus lunchboxes for ski days.
The final night is spent at Erzurum Hilton Garden Inn, giving guests city comfort with modern amenities and proximity to historic sites. Meals, relaxation spaces, and hotel services provide a convenient transition from mountain adventure to urban exploration.
Participants must be strong intermediate to expert skiers or snowboarders. Confidence in off-piste terrain, tree skiing, and variable snow conditions is required. High physical fitness is essential due to long, demanding days at altitudes ranging from 1900 m to 3100 m.
Mandatory equipment includes avalanche transceiver, shovel, probe, helmet, and a well-fitted backpack. Snowmobile operation experience is helpful but not required; guides provide thorough instruction. Comprehensive travel insurance covering winter sports is essential, and guests should prepare for remote conditions with limited access to facilities.
The centre specialises in high-quality sports tourism, combining expert-guided backcountry skiing, catskiing, and snowmobiling in remote alpine environments. Each aspect, from accommodation to activity management, prioritises safety, comfort, and immersive adventure. Experienced guides and carefully selected resorts ensure guests can fully enjoy challenging terrain with expert support.
Sustainability, quality, and cultural enrichment are central to the experience. The combination of high-altitude adventure and exploration of Erzurum’s history provides a well-rounded winter trip that balances adrenaline, wellness, and discovery, appealing to adventurous travellers seeking both challenge and cultural immersion.
