Blending adventure with wellness, this 8-day Ecuador climbing and wellbeing experience takes you from volcanic rock faces to natural hot springs, with daily yoga and guided breathing sessions built into the schedule. You’ll explore the country’s best climbing regions while also prioritising recovery, reflection, and time in nature, with expert local guides and bilingual support throughout.
Day 1 – Arrival in Quito
You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your accommodation in Quito. After settling in, there’s a welcome session, short orientation and light yoga class to shake off the travel. The evening is free to relax or explore a little of the city.
Day 2 – El Rodadero Climbing & Wellness Sessions
After breakfast, the group heads to El Rodadero, a volcanic rock climbing area near Quito. You’ll climb several routes suitable for your level, followed by a cool-down session with yoga and guided breathing exercises. Return to Quito in the afternoon for dinner and optional stretching or meditation.
Day 3 – Cuyuja Jungle Climbing
A scenic drive takes you to Cuyuja, a unique climbing zone at the edge of the cloud forest. The day includes jungle crag climbing on featured basalt and plenty of time to take in the environment. Lunch is outdoors, and the day ends with another guided wellness session and overnight stay nearby.
Day 4 – Transfer to Chimborazo Reserve
Travel down the Avenue of the Volcanoes, passing Cotopaxi and other Andean peaks. You'll stop for lunch en route and arrive at a mountain lodge near Chimborazo. After settling in, you’ll take part in a sunset yoga class and optional stargazing meditation session.
Day 5 – High-Altitude Climbing in Chimborazo
Climb on Chimborazo’s lower volcanic crags, with routes that offer a higher-altitude challenge. This is balanced with structured rest, a guided afternoon meditation, and an optional hot stone massage (available at additional cost).
Day 6 – Travel to Cuenca & Hot Springs
Morning transfer to Cuenca with a stop at natural hot springs for bathing and rest. The focus is on full-body recovery, and there’s time in the evening for yoga or personal reflection before settling into your hacienda accommodation.
Day 7 – Multi-Pitch Climbing at Cojitambo
Climbing day at Ecuador’s only big wall site, Cojitambo. The group will have the option of trying single or multi-pitch climbs, with close instructor supervision and a focus on technique and mental composure. In the evening, return to Cuenca for a group meal and final wellbeing session.
Day 8 – Return to Quito & Departure
Morning yoga followed by transfer back to Quito. You’ll have time for lunch or last-minute shopping before your airport drop-off. Departure timings will be arranged around flight schedules.
This trip spans several regions of Ecuador, each chosen for both climbing and cultural significance. It begins in Quito, the high-altitude capital with colonial charm and proximity to El Rodadero's volcanic formations. Cuyuja, at the edge of the cloud forest, offers lush scenery and basalt routes unlike anywhere else in the country. From there, you'll pass through the Avenue of the Volcanoes, a corridor flanked by snow-capped peaks including Cotopaxi and Chimborazo.
Climbing continues in the Chimborazo Reserve, Ecuador’s highest-altitude climbing area, where routes are physically challenging but rewarding. Cuenca, known for its UNESCO-listed old town, serves as a recovery base before finishing the trip with a day at Cojitambo—a granite big wall site that adds a technical element. Each transfer between zones is done by private transport and includes stops for rest, wellness, and meals.
Accommodation is provided for all 7 nights and carefully selected for both comfort and atmosphere. You’ll stay in a combination of locally-owned hotels, countryside haciendas, and mountain lodges that offer easy access to climbing sites and wellness facilities. Each location reflects the surrounding landscape, whether it’s nestled in the highlands or set beside hot springs.
Rooms are shared unless a private upgrade is requested, and all places prioritise eco-conscious practices and local connection. Many sites include yoga studios or natural spaces for group meditation, and meals are sourced from regional ingredients. The aim is to complement the climbing with rest and reflection, so each overnight base supports both physical recovery and cultural immersion.
This course is suitable for anyone with a moderate level of fitness and a willingness to try both physical activity and wellness practices. No previous rock climbing experience is required, though those with experience will also benefit from varied route choices and coaching. Yoga and meditation are optional but highly recommended for full benefit.
Participants should be prepared for days spent outdoors in changing mountain conditions, with climbing routes at varying altitudes. You’ll need to bring your own climbing shoes, harness, helmet, and weather-appropriate clothing. All instruction and guiding are provided in English and/or Spanish, depending on your preference.
The tour is operated by a well-established German-Ecuadorian team based in Quito, with over 10 years’ experience in cultural and adventure travel across the Andes and Amazon. Their expertise lies in blending physical adventure with wellbeing and connection to place, and their bilingual staff offer consistent support from arrival to departure.
Rather than simply ticking off destinations, the itinerary has been designed to provide flow—between activity and rest, challenge and reflection. Their strong local partnerships mean you’re climbing in protected areas with proper guidance, staying in trusted lodges, and experiencing Ecuador from an insider’s perspective. The team’s commitment to safety, cultural sensitivity, and holistic travel sets this experience apart.
Yes, the itinerary is designed to accommodate climbers of all levels, including beginners. Expert guides lead every climbing session, providing thorough safety briefings and personalised instruction to ensure you feel secure on the rock. Equipment is checked regularly, and routes are chosen based on participant skill and comfort, making safety a top priority throughout the trip.
While climbing always carries some inherent risk, the supportive environment and professional supervision greatly reduce these risks. The guides are trained in rescue techniques and first aid, and the group size allows for attentive monitoring. This means beginners can focus on learning technique and building confidence without undue worry.
Participants must bring their own climbing shoes, harness, helmet, chalk bag, and weather-appropriate clothing. These items are essential for safety and comfort on the routes. If you do not own equipment, rental options can often be arranged in advance through the organisers or local shops, but it is recommended to confirm this before arrival.
Other personal items to consider include gloves for belaying, a climbing backpack to carry gear, and layered clothing to adapt to changing mountain weather. Proper footwear and clothing will help you stay comfortable and safe during long days outside and at altitude.
The climbing routes vary in difficulty to suit all abilities, but moderate fitness is required to fully enjoy the experience. Many routes involve sustained effort, balance, and coordination, often at altitude, which can increase physical demands. You should be prepared for several hours of climbing on most days, combined with walking to climbing sites and sometimes uneven terrain.
The trip balances physical challenge with wellness activities designed to support recovery, such as yoga, meditation, and thermal baths. This approach helps manage fatigue and keeps energy levels consistent, so participants can maintain enthusiasm throughout the week.
Wellness sessions include yoga, guided meditation, breathing exercises, stretching, and, at some locations, hot stone massages or thermal pool soaks. These practices promote flexibility, improve breathing efficiency, and aid muscle recovery, all of which enhance climbing performance and reduce injury risk.
In addition to the physical benefits, wellness activities foster mental focus and relaxation, helping climbers manage stress and stay present during challenging climbs. This holistic approach supports overall wellbeing, making the tour not just an athletic challenge but a restorative experience.
Days usually start early with breakfast followed by a morning climbing session or travel to the next destination. Climbing periods typically last a few hours, broken up by rest and light meals. Afternoons include wellness sessions such as yoga or meditation, time for personal reflection, and sometimes guided nature walks.
Evenings are generally reserved for communal dinners featuring local cuisine and group discussions or light activities. Flexibility is built into the schedule to account for weather, acclimatisation needs, and participant energy levels, ensuring a balanced pace.
Meals specified in the itinerary are included and focus on fresh, local ingredients that provide balanced nutrition suitable for active travellers. Typical dishes feature Andean fruits, vegetables, grains, and proteins prepared in traditional Ecuadorian styles. Herbal infusions are commonly served to aid digestion and relaxation.
Participants with dietary restrictions or preferences should notify the organisers in advance. Special requests are generally accommodated, but availability depends on local resources. Staying well-nourished is emphasised as a key component of the wellness and climbing experience.
Accommodation is included for all nights and is selected for comfort, local character, and proximity to climbing areas. You’ll stay in a mix of hotels, mountain lodges, and haciendas that offer peaceful surroundings and spaces dedicated to wellness activities such as yoga studios or natural outdoor areas.
Rooms are generally shared unless private upgrades are requested. All properties prioritise eco-friendly practices and local culture, allowing you to rest in settings that reflect Ecuador’s natural beauty and heritage. Meals are often served onsite or nearby, further enhancing the sense of place.
No prior experience in yoga or meditation is required. Sessions are led by qualified instructors who guide participants through beginner-friendly practices tailored to complement the physical demands of climbing. The focus is on gentle movement, breath awareness, and mindfulness rather than advanced poses or techniques.
These wellness sessions aim to support all participants, regardless of background, by providing tools to improve flexibility, reduce tension, and foster mental calm. They are designed to be accessible and restorative, making them suitable for anyone interested in enhancing their wellbeing.
