Experience eight days of active adventure through Ecuador’s Andes and Amazon regions, combining mountain biking, whitewater kayaking, hiking, and cultural encounters. Day 1: Arrival in Quito offers free time to explore the UNESCO-listed historic centre, local markets, or museums independently. In the evening, join a welcome meeting to meet guides and fellow participants while reviewing the itinerary and important details for the trip ahead.
Day 2: Journey south along the Avenue of the Volcanoes to Pasochoa Nature Reserve for a high-altitude hike through unique cloud forest ecosystems. Enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by nature before visiting Hacienda El Porvenir, a historic ranch where you’ll prepare traditional Andean treats like cheese empanadas and canelazo. Evening spent relaxing with expansive Andean views.
Day 3: Mountain bike around Cotopaxi Volcano’s highland plateaus with panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and volcanic activity. Spot wildlife such as wild horses and Andean foxes en route to Limpiopungo Glacier Lake. After lunch, continue to Baños, a vibrant town embraced by waterfalls and cloud forests, where you’ll spend the evening at leisure.
Day 4: Visit Pailón del Diablo waterfall before heading to the Amazon basin’s city of Tena. Experience canyoning on the Pimpilala waterfall circuit, ascending through jungle trails and natural pools. Participate in cultural activities at a homestay, trying traditional blowgun use and cacao preparation, ending the day immersed in the sounds of the rainforest.
Day 5: Paddle a whitewater kayak down the biodiverse Arajuno River, spotting colourful birds, otters, and monkeys. After a riverside lunch, ascend from the Amazon basin to the Andes, arriving at Papallacta Hot Springs Resort. Relax in natural thermal pools surrounded by cloud forest, with optional spa treatments available.
Day 6: Visit an ancient Andean community to witness Pachamanca, a traditional underground cooking technique using volcanic stones. Participate in a ceremony and savour dishes cooked in this ancestral style. Explore Otavalo market for textiles and crafts, visit a weaving workshop, and learn about local music at the Andean Music Museum. Overnight at a colonial hacienda.
Day 7: Hike around Lake Cuicocha, a volcanic crater lake with turquoise waters and twin islands. Enjoy panoramic Andean views, local flora, and birdlife along the rim trail. After a picnic lunch, visit the Quitsato Equatorial Monument, where you’ll learn about the equator’s significance through a giant sundial and cultural displays. Return to Quito for the final night.
