After breakfast and a pre-climb briefing, drive to Marangu Gate to complete park registration before beginning your trek. Walk through lush montane rainforest to Mandara Hut, with the option of visiting Maundi Crater for panoramic views across northern Tanzania and Kenya. Keep an eye out for towering eucalyptus trees, colourful birdlife and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Leave the rainforest behind as you climb through open heathland towards Horombo Hut. Enjoy excellent views of Mawenzi Peak and Kibo, while passing giant lobelias and giant groundsels that thrive at higher elevations.

Spend the day acclimatising at Horombo Hut to help your body adjust to the altitude. You may choose to take an optional acclimatisation hike towards the lower slopes of Mawenzi Peak before returning to camp for another night.

Continue across the vast alpine saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. The landscape gradually changes from heathland to a dramatic alpine desert, offering spectacular views before arriving at Kibo Hut. Rest early and prepare for the overnight summit attempt.

Overnight: Kibo Hut
Around midnight, begin the final ascent towards Gilman's Point (5,681 m) before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement at the summit before descending via Kibo Hut for lunch and continuing to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.

After breakfast, descend through heathland and rainforest to Marangu Gate, where you'll receive your summit certificate. Your driver will then transfer you back to your hotel in Moshi.

Tip: Make photocopies or digital copies of your passport, visa, flight tickets and insurance documents. Leave one copy with someone at home and keep another separate from the originals.
