This three-day trip leaves Agadir on the Atlantic coast and crosses south toward the Sahara gateway at Mhamid. Kasbahs, palm valleys and pre-desert landscapes fill the road days before a camel evening and camp on the sand. The route gives a paced introduction to southern Morocco from the coast.
Day one climbs from the coast through the Anti-Atlas toward Taroudant and Ouarzazate, with stops in Berber towns and souks where you can walk the ramparts or browse spice stalls. Day two follows the Draa Valley south through Agdz and long palm oases toward Mhamid, where the paved road meets the open desert and camels wait for the ride into camp at sunset.
Day three is sunrise on the dunes near Mhamid, the ride back to the vehicles and a return along the Draa and Anti-Atlas to Agadir with rest stops in oasis villages. The route suits travellers based on the coast who want a Sahara taste without flying to Marrakech first, and the three-day pace avoids compressing the Atlas crossing and the Draa drive into a single exhausting day.
Mhamid sits at the end of the Draa Valley where the paved road meets the open desert, closer to Erg Chigaga country than the Merzouga dunes. Palm corridors and kasbah walls line much of the southbound road, with the Anti-Atlas giving way to pre-Sahara heat as you descend from the coast.
Agadir's Atlantic climate gives way to mountain passes and then desert silence, so you see a wide slice of southern Morocco in three days. Taroudant's walled medina and the long green ribbon of the Draa are highlights before you reach the sand at Mhamid.
You should be comfortable with long travel days and a short camel ride into camp. Walking is mostly optional on flat oasis paths and souk lanes during rest stops.
Share any motion sensitivity when you enquire, as day one includes winding mountain roads from the coast. Your driver plans breaks around the group so no one sits continuously for hours without stretching.
We run the trip as one private journey from Agadir pickup to camp and back, with the same driver-guide throughout. That continuity matters on a route with mountain passes, long palm valleys and a desert camp night in one compact itinerary.
Starting on the coast avoids backtracking to Marrakech and puts you straight onto the Draa Valley south road toward Mhamid. You get genuine Sahara scenery from an Agadir base, which suits beach holidaymakers adding a desert chapter to their trip.
Pickup in Agadir starts the inland drive. You stop at Ait Benhaddou, then continue to Mhamid for a camel ride into camp, dinner and music.
Day one is a long transfer from the coast. Keep water in the vehicle and a warm layer ready for camp.
After the morning camel ride out of camp you drive the Draa Valley toward Ouarzazate, with a stop at the film studios. Night two is dinner and a hotel at Ait Benhaddou.
The ksar walk waits until the morning, so you arrive without rushing the lanes in the dark.
A guided walk of Ait Benhaddou starts the morning. You then drive through Ouarzazate back to Agadir.
Drop-off is at your hotel or a point you agree in advance, usually in the afternoon or evening.
You'll be collected from your hotel in Agadir on the morning of day one. The first day runs inland toward Ait Benhaddou and Mhamid.
Day three drops you back in Agadir after the ksar walk and the drive through Ouarzazate.
Night one is in a desert camp at Mhamid after the camel ride. Night two is in a hotel at Ait Benhaddou after the studio stop.
The camp is simple tents, a shared dinner and music. Bring a warm layer for the camp night.
