Get introduced to the world of outdoor climbing on this two-day beginner-friendly course set in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. With a mix of practical instruction, safety training and time on real rock, you’ll gain the essential skills to start your climbing journey with confidence.
Across two structured days, this course builds up your climbing skills step by step. You'll begin with a full introduction to the essential equipment—harnesses, ropes, helmets, carabiners, climbing shoes, and more—followed by knot practice and how to handle your gear safely. Once you’re familiar with the basics, the focus shifts to belaying and descending techniques, communication between climber and belayer, and an overview of climbing safety standards. The aim is to equip you with practical knowledge that you can carry forward into more advanced settings or future independent climbing.
Your instructors will guide you through technique workshops that cover body positioning, movement on the wall, balance, and how to effectively use rock features as support. You’ll also get hands-on experience on natural rock under close supervision to help solidify your new skills in a real setting. In between climbing sessions, enjoy guided stretching and yoga to stay flexible and reduce fatigue. Transport, entrance to climbing areas and a lunch box are all arranged for you, so you can focus entirely on learning and having fun. Optional extras like gloves or a climbing backpack are handy but not required.
The course is held in the highlands of the Ecuadorian Andes, offering a natural playground of granite and volcanic rock formations ideal for learning. This region combines fresh mountain air, a comfortable climate, and a variety of climbing routes that suit beginner levels without being too challenging. You'll be outdoors in true alpine surroundings, with panoramic views, rugged rock faces, and quiet natural areas far from tourist crowds.
The meeting point is in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, which sits at the base of the Andean mountains. It's a well-connected city with easy access to a range of climbing destinations within just a few hours’ drive. Transfers from the city to the climbing sites are included, so there’s no need to worry about logistics—just show up ready to get stuck in.
This course is ideal for complete beginners or anyone with limited climbing experience. A moderate level of physical fitness is recommended as you’ll be moving, stretching and using upper body strength across both days. No previous climbing or rope skills are necessary, and all technical instruction will be provided on-site in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
Participants must bring their own basic equipment or hire it in advance, including a harness, helmet, climbing shoes and appropriate clothing for the weather. Optional extras like chalk, belay gloves or a first aid kit can be brought for added comfort but are not essential. The focus is on building a strong base, so you’ll leave the course feeling prepared for your next steps in the sport.

Their focus on safe, ethical travel and personal attention makes them a trusted choice for beginners who want more than just a quick taster session. You'll leave not only with new skills, but with great memories from your first real experience climbing on rock.
Yes, this course is specifically designed for beginners or those with very limited climbing experience. The sessions start with the absolute basics—how to put on a harness, tie essential knots, and understand safety systems. All skills are taught progressively, so you’re never thrown into something you’re not ready for.
The practical lessons are supported by clear instruction and hands-on demonstrations, with plenty of time to ask questions and repeat techniques until you’re comfortable. It’s a relaxed, encouraging environment aimed at helping people build confidence from the ground up.
You’ll need to bring basic climbing gear including a harness, helmet, climbing shoes, and suitable clothing for the mountain climate. Magnesium (chalk), a chalk bag, and optional belay gloves are useful extras but not essential.
If you don’t already own this equipment, you may be able to hire some items locally before the course. It’s best to check availability ahead of time. You’ll also want a backpack to carry your gear during the day and perhaps a small first aid kit for personal use.
The course requires a moderate level of fitness. You don’t need to be an athlete, but a general level of strength, balance, and mobility will help you enjoy the experience more. Expect some physical exertion, especially when practising on natural rock.
Instructors will tailor the pace to suit the group, offering regular rest and guided stretching sessions to prevent fatigue. If you’re comfortable with light hiking or active days outdoors, you’ll be well prepared for this course.
Accommodation is not included as part of this package. The course runs during the day with transport provided between Quito and the climbing site. Participants will need to arrange their own accommodation in Quito before and after the course.
Quito offers a wide range of accommodation options from budget hostels to boutique hotels, making it easy to find something suitable. Staying in the city also gives you the chance to explore the local culture and food in the evenings.
Lunch boxes are provided on both days of the course and include enough food and drink to keep you fuelled throughout the day. These are prepared with local ingredients and typically cater to general dietary needs.
Any other meals—such as breakfast, dinner or snacks—are not included. You’ll need to arrange these separately, either through your accommodation or at restaurants in Quito before and after each session.
Safety is a top priority. The course begins with a full equipment check and instruction on how to use all gear correctly. You’ll also learn climbing-specific safety procedures including belaying, descent techniques, and proper communication with your partner.
All activities are supervised by experienced instructors, and any climbing on natural rock is done with harnesses, ropes, and helmets in place. The teaching pace is adjusted to match your comfort and ability, so there’s no pressure to rush or take unnecessary risks.
